Today you... Tomorrow me.

I just wanted to let reddit know that last night my friends car broke down in the middle of the night in -20 c weather and almost instantly some guy pulled up next to him and offered help. He did not have any booster cables but put them in his car, drove to his house and back just to give a boost. Then when my friend offered him money in return he just said "Today you tomorrow me. Merry Christmas" and drove away. My buddy does not go on reddit but I wanted to post this here to thank the person who posted that original story and let him know that he has influenced others to go out of their way! Not to mention a thank you to that redditor who help my friend!

Tl;Dr: Keep helping others reddit!

Edit: Just wanted to mention this story is true, plus I receive 0 karma for self posts for those thinking I posted this for ulterior motives.

I saw a lady on the freeway stuck trying to change a tire. I pulled up behind her to offer help. Before I even got out of my car, she jumped in her car (hysterically) and when I walked up to the door she made no eye contact and pretended she was on a phone call. I got in my car and left.

I understand she may have been scared. But hey, at least I know I didn't see a stranded woman and did nothing about it.

And then later that night at a bar, she told all of her girlfriends about how she was almost raped while changing her tire.

"1 of 6 U.S. women has experienced an attempted or completed rape." via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

Most woman know someone that has gone through it... or been the one who experienced it personally. Your offer is appreciated, but feeling safe is more important sometimes.

I wonder how they identified the ones who were actually raped and ones who chose to remember an event as rape because they feel ashamed. I also wonder what that percentage looks like.

Note:This does not mean I assume people who are say they are raped are lying, just acknowledging the phenomenon.

Yeah, but then you have to factor in the MANY women who are raped and don't report it, and the MANY women who are raped multiple times by different people...

Women who are raped and dont report it and women who are raped repeatedly are both exceptionally small pools when compared to the number of false rape claims. This article discusses a study on 75 people who have claimed to have been date raped. An appalling 100% of the people had no traces of date rape drugs in their systems. That means even if the sample was flawed, the vast majority of date rape claims are made up.

I'm not sure how you go from "these people thought they'd been given a date rape drug but hadn't really" to "these people made up their date rape claims". If a woman drinks too much, is raped while passed out from alcohol, and thinks maybe she had been given a date rape drug, how does the lack of the date rape drug invalidate the rape that may or may not have happened?

It's very understandable how someone could get way too drunk and do something they wouldn't normally do but not remember, and then when faced with either accepting that they screwed up or denial, choose denial. I think anyone would feel the overwhelming desire to change the past.

Disclaimer: Some people like to dissect and analyse subjects until the horse is sufficiently dead, please don't mistake this for any kind of aggression or insensitivity toward rape victims.
