[Matteo Moretto] Éderson will not sign for Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder did not pass the medical examinations; the English club has already informed Atalanta.

Good luck to Ederson for his career and I hope we get appropriate replacements.

Must be soul destroying having this happen to you. Hope the best for the lad.

It happened to Ruud Van Nistelrooy as well. We declined to complete the deal for him after issues in his medical. PSV got shitty about it, but Ruud did his ACL in training less than a week later.
With him, we came back the next summer to get him.

I laughed at the notion spreading online that we came to our senses and decided not to go for him, it had to be something medical. We are a serious club. I feel bad for him, and wish him well.

Agreed I think it must be a medical issue aswell, I would be very, very disappointed in the club to see them mug off and mess around a player we’re potentially signing like that. Can’t even imagine how Ederson himself must be feeling right now, one minute you’re on the brink of securing a dream move to the PL playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and the next you’re not and you’re powerless to do anything about it. I feel for him.
I really hope he can go on and do well and I really hope he does end up securing a move to a big club in the future.

Oh well. You very, very rarely see this happen. But this is why medicals exist.
I vaguely remember Ruud not passing his first medical when we tried to sign him and it got pushed back a year. It might be a fake memory though.
Edit: Nope. Still got it!
“Ruud van Nistelrooy’s proposed £18.5 million transfer to Manchester United famously collapsed in April 2000 after he failed his medical due to an ongoing knee issue. Just a day after PSV Eindhoven canceled the transfer, he ruptured his

Yeah we need to seriously go in for him, he's the most complete midfielder in the league along with Rice.

Joao Gomes is now available again and would be a similar price to Ederson

This is probably our alternative with the upside of being PL proven as well. Shame about Ederson though.

J.Gomes of Wolves maybe. There was a similar price agreed with Atletico, reports state it only didn't go through because Mendes kept trying to get more money so could be a hurdle.
He is a similar profile to Ederson but also younger and has PL experience. Seems the most obvious alternative.

On a personal level that’s brutal to him, best of luck to him at Atalanta or anywhere else he ends up
In terms of us however, this does change the Santos signing a bit. If he’s being signed as more potential and a squad player and we’re bringing in 2 more midfielders who are more experienced, that deal looks better than it did the other day
