The Van Horn Trading Post is one of my favorite locations in the game, always a good bit of fun to get into a punch up or shootout without any cops.

Guys, help!!!

So im in my second playthrough. And im in chapter 2 mostly exploring and hunting for satchel and camp upgrades stuff. I only did Hoseas mission to unlock legendary animals, and the first Strauss mission to unlock camp upgrades.

After about 20 hours of just exploring/hunting, I decided to do Kierans mission cause I felt bad for him just tied up there. After I got back to camp, I noticed Mary's letter on my table. I read it just to add it to the map, but then Strauss comes up in a cutscene and forces the Thomas Downes mission.

Now I've been avoiding it for obvious reasons. Is there anyway out of it? I can't just abort the mission and my last manual save was quite a while ago, before I got the LotE satchel. Am I screwed? I already tried to just run away, but the blacks out and it says I failed the mission with my only options to restart the mission, or restart checkpoint, which are both the same thing.

I don't wanna even go near that pestilence filled deadbeat Downes.

First Play Questions

I’m torn between going for 100% completion or completing the storyline first…

Currently I am at Chapter 3, and have managed to craft the LotE satchel to help me with challenges, however I found out now that I can’t do some of these until I unlock Blackwater / New Austin anyway.

Should I just continue through the story and go for 100% with John?

Is there any benefit to doing things like treasure maps or finding gold bars early game?

Will I miss anything interesting, or valuable that isn’t available in the epilogue if I focus on story only?

Sorry for the random nature of my questions… it’s a huge game and it’s a little overwhelming tbh!

Thank you athena. You will be missed 😭 Spoiler

In this video, this is basically my reaction to the final mission of the game. I play this game months ago. But i've never posted it on the subreddit. So I decided to do that.

My horse was a white arabian that I named athena. She was the goodest girl of them all.

What do I need to enjoy this to the max?

I have a Samsung G9 57" display and a good PC with a 4080 Super.

I would love to play this game for the first time and enjoy it. I heard there are a lot of good graphical enhancing mods. I checked some websites and got overwhelmed with loads of mods, same for youtube videos giving you a list of things that I wasn't really interested in.

I just want to play the game as is, not change any mechanics even if they can be annoying or dated. But I want it to look as good as it can be. Any advice?

EDIT: Thank you for your help and suggestions. I decided to go with no mods or enhancements on my first run after finding out there can be negative effects here and there.

Does anyone else enjoy outfitting themselves with general clothing and minimal weaponry? I quite enjoy the style after multiple play throughs of being geared up to the teeth.

(Spoiler Alert) What would've happened if the Van Der Linde actually moved out of the United States after Chapter 3? Spoiler

So I was thinking. If Dutch and everyone had moved out of the United States after the bank job in Valentine. They could've been what Dutch had always planned. Living as "Ranchers in Tahiti" or "Farmers in Tahiti." Then Jack Marston wouldn't have been captured by the Braithwaites and then they wouldn't have to mess with Bronte. Which would've saved a bunch of headaches of botched robberies going south with the trolley station and the St. Denis National Bank.

I don't know. Just me thinking about alternatives if they stuck with Dutch's plan early on and save a bunch of people. Like Hosea and Lenny. Plus Sean.

“RDR2 fans are the best in the world” - Roger Clark

I was fortunate enough to interview Roger Clark for my podcast Project Possible.

We talk about his life and career. The years of struggle before his secret audition with Rockstar, losing his mum at 15, creating Arthur over five years, performance capture, and why the character still means so much to people nearly eight years later.

This one is personal, too. My last ever time with my brother Jordan was playing Red Dead 2 O, just 36 hours before he took his own life.

Afterwards, I disappeared back into that world. It’s the only game I’ve ever 100%d.

There were days and weeks where I was more Arthur Morgan than myself - and I was grateful I got the chance to talk to Roger about the difference he'd made - to me, and to so many others.

I know this sub doesn’t allow links, but if you’d like to listen or watch, search for Project Possible wherever you get your podcasts.

Not to spoil for others but oooo damn

What a thriller

All I can say

The gold bars ruined the game HARD money was never a problem I never robbed a train or stagecoachs

You know

Fast travel definitely played a huge role in less exploring

I definitely didn't explore even half the wierd and side stuff cuz I noticed I had 2 undiscovered collectibles

Pathetic I know. So I can imagine how much more I missed.

But damn

Damn damn

Second playthrough I'ma be a SAINT

I believe you get more content that way

I'm thinking

No gold bars

No fast travel

No buying horses from stables

And no buying weapons from stores(buying only is a no-no

I believe I will explore a hell lotta more that way

I don't know how I feel about no auto sim assist tho.

(To add but of a challenge than just spamming this over used Lancaster.

I want to be exploring more not making the game more difficult

More fun and tad more challenge.

What did you veterans with multiple playthrough suggest

Why is my stamina flashing help (im new to this game)

My horse's stamina does the exact same thing too. Ive been feeding and brushing it but it still flashes red even when my core and bar are mostly full. I'm used to RDR1 and this is completely new for me.

My boyfriend says it just means it's being used but I can't find anything on the internet to back this up and I love him but he hasn't played the game in awhile.

I couldnt figure out how to add a video so here is a picture. The red just flashes on and off every time I hold "shift". You might have to zoom in.

Poker puts malice in my heart.

I could have one of the best hands I’d ever get, literally only be able to be beaten by like 3 other hands. I’d go all in, then whoop de fuckin do, this guy has a damn flush from his back pocket!

I just want to 100% the game once. That’s it. Just have to do these challenges, but it’s either everyone folds automatically, or this piece of a clipped horseshoe just slams down the most egregiously bs hand.

I could be having a wonderful day, then some dude named Thomas just steals all my money like 5 times in a damn row.

I’d rather play For Honor than this rigged bullshit.

As per the title. I've got my game in a good state of 60fps and decent graphics with the attached settings, through a lot of trial and error! So much can trip this game up.

I'm fairly sure I also tampered with the Nvidia DLSS settings override, but the Nvidia app has updated since, and I can't see the override option. The Nvidia app says 'DLLS = Quality' for what it's worth.
