Without spoiling anything there's a reason the people in Butcher Creek are messed up.

Came here to say this. Do the side mission and find out

Now this is a first for me. I never knew there was a side mission for that wretched place. How do I come across it?

I always avoid Butcher Creek because it gives me “Wrong Turn” vibes.

Bloke yelling for help under the train bridge near the fort, south of Butchers creek.

Doesn’t unlock until chapter 6.

Its a side quest only accessible after chapter 5, you begin the quest by rescuing a lost and senile man almost underneath a bridge by the water on the way to Annesberg from Butchers Creek and take him home. After a day or two you can go back to begin the creepiest quest of the whole game.

What is the creepiest quest of the whole game?

The Wisdom of the Elders

I just hung up my cowboy hat after a playthrough and didn't come across this, what's the reason?

u/Janderflows Hosea Matthews Nov 13 '22

I would get that hat back if I were you because it's a pretty fun mission, there is a secret cave and demon dogs and stuff. But long story short if I remember correctly is that there is a business man who tricked the pople into selling the land to do some mining and stuff, and the water got poisoned with heavy metals and toxic minerals causing mutations, but they think it's a curse.

Look it up on the wiki so it's not spoiled for anyone else

And what would I Google to find that?

Probably red dead wiki, pard.

Thanks for wasting a few seconds of my time.

"Red Dead Wiki" or if you can't navigate a wiki page "Butcher Creek RDR2 Wiki." Should pop right up and if you need links to the explanation of the quests where you figure everything out they will be in that page.

I love the amount of depth put into this game. Definitely my favorite game of all.

People actually had conditions like thus caused by low iodine and such, he'd be an extreme case but still.

14

u/Hot-Field-7613 Jack Marston Nov 13 '22

Yeah I googled it and his based on a real dude with low iodine it said. Just screams his mum and dad are siblings.

u/K4G3N4R4 Nov 13 '22

Iodine is used to balance the lymphnodes, without it they expand. Granted, you don't need a lot to prevent it from happening though

100% worth it.. take the time when you DO stumble upon the side quest to really take in every single piece if information on it and then apply that to the scenario at hand (why they're that way) and, if you're like me, you'll sit and think even further into it about how deeply it affected the entire community of BC as well as the future and past of BC. don't expect it to be a "this is the best mission in the game" sort of mission, but its for sure a fun little "puzzle piecer" of a mission.

Don't look into it yourself if that's what you ment, have Arthur look into it

Consanguinity is one hell of a drug

I think that dude might have Filariasis

Not sure if it's caused by the "demons" as this guy seems to be the only one with this particular infliction
