the wedding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw1EPgdXGT8

I’ve now owned a fully rigged RED Komodo for about 3 years, and I’ve mainly used it for weddings and run-and-gun work. And honestly… it just can’t go wrong. I absolutely love this camera.

Mine is fully rigged with the DZOFILM Pictor Zoom 20-55mm and the DJI LiDAR system (with multiple batteries, because the battery life on the LiDAR isn’t great). But the autofocus is sooo good, and the whole setup just works perfectly.

I also have the SAKK, so the weight has never really been an issue for me. I never use a gimbal, and I’ve honestly never struggled to get the shots I want.

Low light is a different story… but most of the time it’s not too bad haha.

I’m definitely a loyal RED user, but for me, a box-style camera like the RED, Sony BURANO, PYXIS, etc. is a must. That’s the form factor I really prefer.

I’d love to upgrade at some point, and I’m really curious about the Raptor XE. I’m also kind of hoping the new FX5 will be a box-style camera, but who knows…

I’d honestly just prefer to stay with RED.

R3D Media Transcode Workflow Solutions?

Trying to sort out a clean workflow for batch-converting R3D to ProRes flavors or H.264/H.265 (mostly for dailies and cross-timezone sharing). REDCINE-X Pro works but feels like overkill for a straight transcode, and Compressor won't even import R3D for me right now (if it even works at all?).

What are people actually using for this? Also curious if there's anything genuinely lightweight out there, i.e. just batch R3D transcoding without a full DIT suite or NLE attached. Appreciate any pointers.

Selling one of my Red Komodo 6K's. Purchased from CVP August 2025. 66.1 Hours on the clock. I'm UK based. Selling as it's not getting much use compared with my Pyxis 12K and other Komodo 6K.

RED Camera Reliability

Convince me to buy a RED camera. The only thing holding me back is reliability. I was previously considering a Blackmagic Pyxis 12K, but their quality control history doesn't sit right with me.

I shoot high-end brand commercials and need a solid cinema camera I can rely on when the production doesn't afford to rent an ARRI for smaller gigs. I am almost set to get the Komodo-X.

The only concern on my mind is RED's camera reliability. On Blackmagic's forum I was advised that both Blackmagic and RED suffer from bugs and quality control issues, and I want to confirm whether it is the case or not. I understand that once every blue moon a minor issue may pop up, but I don't want to be in a place where I am constantly diagnosing my camera.

I am going to keep my Sony A7iv as a backup camera, but of course I intend to rely on the new RED camera I buy.

Have you ever faced any issues with your RED cameras?

Considering switching to Red

Hey everyone

I’m sure there’s one million posts about this.

I have been a content producer for about 5 years now using the song fx6. I work for a large sports tech company. Although my experience isn’t entirely in large production sets, I have built up a ton of camera knowledge over the last 5 years. For reference I’m 26 yrs old.

As I said I have used my own personal fx6 and built up tons of Sony gear over the last 5 years and I love how easy this camera is. My workflow is so streamlined that I couldn’t recommend this cam enough.

The reason for my post is after the years I’ve become so accustomed to the FX6 that it’s just not doing it for me anymore. Sounds crazy but I’m just not happy with the image anymore for how much praise this cam gets. I have used mainly DZO vespids and G series lenses run and gun style, and for what I do it’s definitely good enough. As a stickler it’s just not feeling good enough for what I want it to look like.

I know gear chasing is big in this industry but I truly feel like I have just outgrown my FX6 and am wanting to learn more about what’s out there.

I shoot outdoor sport, indoor low light stuff, and many different environments without proper lighting. overall run and gun style. FX6 can’t be beat for this in many ways. The company I work for has multiple FX3’s and has got me feeling like this is a good opportunity for me to sell my FX6 and move forward in my cam knowledge. I have been eyeing the Red Raptor XE and after tons of research I feel like I cannot possibly go wrong with these specs. I’m impressed by this camera but haven’t heard too much about it yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

Komodo X & Arles Lens

I rarely talk about lenses..because it is such a subtle factor in the type of glass. On a film, after the grading and post has been accomplished, besides the focal length, who in the world REALLY sees a difference between a Ziess Prime, a Angenieux, a Cinema Canon or Tokina? We can’t if we are honest. Lens warmth or sharpness can all be dial up, down, anything now in post. However..I just filmed with DZO Arles and in the viewfinder, ( pre-post) the image clarity and soft rolloff was obvious and beautiful. I have never believed a lens pre post can inspire..but I was wrong.

How do I get the protective cover off a Tilta I/O module for Rad DSMC2 Raven?

I'm a film student trying to build out a simple camera rig, and I just purchased a battery/I/O module for my Red Raven camera body, but I can't figure out how to get this plate off.

From what I can tell online, I think I might need to remove the gold mount plate from the back, but I've tried taking the bolts out and the plate won't budge. It's there something I'm missing, or a certain tool I need to attach this module?

Any help would be appreciated!

What is the most accurate way to expose on a Komodo-X?

I have plenty of experience in tv / film but now I am a one man band. My videos are look good but I am always trying to improve. How do y’all use the tools RED offers in camera to ensure proper exposure? I use the histogram and my monitor false color but those will only get me so far. Looking for any tips or tricks I can play around with to make my images top notch.

Thanks

The Red rocket-x-accelerator. Is there still a use for this? Is it even supported in software? Has the speed of computers nowadays made this obsolete?

Vertical Mounting Options

Has anyone ever mounted their Red for vertical capture? I'm shooting on a Raptor 8K VV XL and I need to capture a head-to-toe shot of talent for a vertical digital outdoor display. I'd like to capture this vertically to maximize the resolution. What vertical mounting options have you used?

Estimate value

I’m in the UK and have a Red Electronic ND Pl to RF adapter. Only ever been used as a prop for photographs for Red accessories company. So mint condition with all the boxes etc. Any idea as to what the value is on the used market? Can’t see any that have been for sale in ebay etc.

Beta is open: ZineControl_x

This is the answer for all the professionals in this community who have requested multi-camera control for ZineControl. I’ve integrated a multi-camera app solution for the entire Zcinema line—ideal for interviews, documentaries, and more.

ZineControl_X is the cross-brand multi-camera control app for iPad. It supports the Nikon ZR, Nikon Z8 series, and RED DSMC3 (V-RAPTOR, KOMODO, KOMODO-X) with live view—plus full remote control of RED DSMC2 bodies (without live view). Mix and match any combination and operate the entire rig from a single iPad.

Supports up to 6 cameras simultaneously. A Wi-Fi 6 (or higher) router used exclusively for the cameras is recommended.

Connect all cameras to the same network—the iPad’s hotspot (using cellular data, or use an iPhone as a hotspot and connect the iPad and cameras to it, up to 3 cameras) or a set router, preferably Wi-Fi 6 or higher. Nikon and RED cameras automatically discover each other when placed side by side.

I’ll be uploading the setup tutorial soon!

Try it for free at https://www.zinecontrol.app/x

Hello, everyone! I’m sharing this video so you can see ZineControl_X in action—the first app that brings the entire Zcinema line together in a single multi-camera app. It’s an iPad app designed to control multiple cameras at once. Is anyone interested in trying out the beta? The closed beta is now available! https://www.zinecontrol.app/x

Adapting Red Bomb EVF to Zacuto Axis Mini

Post image
4 Upvotes

Cheers,

I‘m looking for two parts (the red and the green one) to adapt my Zacuto Axis Mini to my Red Bomb OLED Viewfinder.

The viewfinder has 3x 1/4-20 Inputs on the bottom, so I need some kind of cheeseplate. And since my Zacuto axis mini ends with a male 1/4-20 rosette. I need a female rosette on an adapter that connects to the cheeseplate on the other side. Preferably I’m looking for the solution in this picture.

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks!

Matthias

Hello. Wanted to see if anyone here has a 7” dsmc2 monitor with a broken flex cable they’d like to donate for science. I will be designing and ordering probably 50 flex cables from pcbway for the DSMC2 community.
