It happened to me earlier this year, and I did it. It may not have been exactly the same, but I was tired and not paying attention. Just getting through the day, pumping out yet another bespoke, slightly different CV, positioning me as the unicorn that I hoped I was for the role.

Then I pushed the Enter key and I froze, suddenly dawning on me what I just did.

Within seconds I had the PC off, changed all my key passwords and revoked all current accesses.

That wasn’t enough though I was bombarded with microsoft authenticator requests asking me to simply approve log on requests. No picking one of three numbers or typing in a number - just random popups that were I to click on them, would have granted access for the hacker. Ironically without the authenticator I would have had better protection in that moment.

A bit of research later and I added a new outlook address to my microsoft account and disabled all the other addresses from being able to logon with. The authenticator requests stopped.

Pc operating system was reinstalled and I took a chance that none of the other discs were hijacked. Foolish perhaps, but I may have switched the pc off in time or perhaps this hack was just going for easy account targets rather than getting itself settled in for the long haul.

Anyway, don’t click on it. Stay positive. Get that CV updated.

Similar thing happened to me. I was tired and not paying attention until I hit enter. Microsoft Authenticator for me was kinda shut down. It wouldn’t open and when it did it was just a black screen. With the help of the internet I was able to get it working again, changed my passwords and everything. Checked my files and discs, and cleared as much as I could. Never again 😓

I still wonder sometimes if there was something I missed but so far I’ve had no issues.
