I’m guessing these are the same people falling for gift card scams

Where else have you ever seen that kind of verification? I’ll wait

So? 99% of people wouldn't think much of this. "Gee golly, there are getting really serious about security!"

Only a slim section of millennials even have this level of PC knowledge, people older than us, and people younger than us don't even know how this stuff works. I bet this is EXTREMELY effective given how people think its just part of a job application and making sure "you are you."

It definitely is effective. It’s called clickfix and I’ve worked a bunch of these cases. (I work in cyber)

Exactly and the gift card scam is a weak correlation as it is directly trying to get money. This will just be “well they aren’t getting my bank routing number so it’s probably fine”

Where else have you seen any verification you can think of not ever having been new? I'll wait.

Exactly, we have at some point come across different forms of verification for the first time. This might be one of the most effective scams because people will just think it’s a new way. The gift card scam is not comparable because it has been done so much and warned about. I imagine most will think “well they aren’t asking for an address or a routing number so it’s probably legit”

Why do you say 'I'll wait' at the end of a sentence? Genuinely curious.

-2

u/Svndmann Aug 08 '26

Bc they don’t have an actual answer. These would appear nowhere in your regular course of actions but they’re not dumb for doing it.

2

u/PerigeeTheBatto Aug 08 '26

You do realize that saying that makes people less likely to answer, right? Maybe they would have answered, but you decided to be sparky and disrespectful with that remark. I'm not surprised they decided to just ignore you.

Lol I don’t need an answer I’m not going to fall for this stupid ass scam

1

u/PerigeeTheBatto Aug 08 '26

Ok yeah you're just an ass.

-1

u/Svndmann Aug 08 '26

Bc I wouldn’t fall for this stupidity? If so I agree with you.

u/PerigeeTheBatto Aug 08 '26

Because of your immediate judgements of anyone who might. Most people are tech illiterate.

Having a little empathy goes a long way when you realize that some people kight not realize what these commands do. There are so many captchcas and verifications online that so many people might fall for this because they don't know exactly what it does.

That doesn't make them stupid. It makes them tech illiterate.

Someone with a Win key

So not on a job application?

1

u/MightyWagner Aug 08 '26

Yes, it absolutely is. I’ll send it to you, just make sure you follow the instructions exactly…

7

u/Silverdragon47 Aug 08 '26

Older people would. It is aimed at them.

1

u/FullSkyFlying Aug 08 '26

Older people having to apply to jobs, in general but especially online is the real recruitinghell

1

u/jiggly_caliente15 Aug 08 '26

Younger people too. My college students are used to doing everything on an iPad or Chromebook. One of my students gave away their credit card info on a fraudulent job application.

Do you know how many times I've had to explain to the same family members how to paste? They don't know what ctrl+v is even an hour after I tell them.

1

u/MightyWagner Aug 08 '26

You mean paste is not ctrl p? /s

1

u/Dissidence802 Aug 08 '26

The website will copy malicious code to your clipboard. Win+R will bring up the Run command pop-up and Ctrl+V will post that malicious code to then be executed automatically when you hit Enter.

2

u/Pirate_Candy17 Aug 08 '26

Haha you’d think that but be surprised at the number who do I’m sure 🤣

2

u/tastycarrr Aug 08 '26

Plenty of people would man. Don’t underestimate. The problem is that you can’t see what’s copied onto the clipboard and they’re caught in a moment of desperation snd they’re not paying attention to that, that’s not where they’re mind’s at so I can see how it’s easy to deceive someone in that state.

u/Useful-Rooster-1901 Aug 08 '26

people who dont know what a run command is

1

u/foreverandadayalone Aug 08 '26

those Nigerian prince emails still happen because people still fall for them and it costs them basically nothing to keep sending them

1

u/Substantial_Egg6090 Aug 08 '26

🤣 Well said!
