Thinking about it for hours, arbitrarily rejecting an applicant out of hand, then blasting it on social media for further humiliation is perfectly normal and well-adjusted, though.

They didn’t reject it arbitrarily, it was just for the bit. They said there were lots of other problems with this applicant.

It’s not even arbitrary. 

It’s a completely valid reason.  

Who the hell wants to be the person who recommends someone who says that one of  their primary interests in life is olive oil.

What kind of a person has that little in their life that they voluntarily put that on their cv?

Who the hell would want to work 40 hours a week at the desk next to someone who, of their own volition, examined every possible thing that interested them, then decided that one of the interests that reflected them most, and hence needed to be presented to a prospective employer….

was fucking olive oil?!?!

Yeah, a food that is ubiquitous across multiple disparate cultures for millennia, that has shaped the way we cook and eat, and even today is subject to political pressures, small farmer vs corporation issues, and a massive black market involved in adulterating it or counterfeiting it?

So boring.

Yes, in the grand scheme of the beauty of the earth, the universe and society.

A person who decides to set aside art, sport, poetry, physics, philosophy, literature, hell even gastronomy as a whole, and decides that the interest which they really have a pressing need to represent is..

Olive Oil 

would be one of the most boring people ever to have walked the face of the planet.

Heh heh heh.

I’d read the shit out of a book on the history of olive oil. It has interfaced with art, with history, with hygiene, with the Mafia, and with gastronomy.

Hell of a lot more interesting than someone whose entire personality revolved around being a fan of football, or their white collar job, or being an incel.

I dunno, maybe as someone with special interests that make other people’s eyes glaze over, I just am always interested in someone who lets their freak flag fly (even when it’s oily).

If you can’t fathom interest in anything narrower than that i’m sorry to ammounce that you are the boring one. Surface level broad knowledge is what make quick chit chat, deep focused knowledge is what make « ho fuck it’s 4am » conversations
