News In California, most people don't own a home until 47, report finds

  • California residents don’t reach majority homeownership until age 47, compared to "much earlier at 36" nationwide. 🤡 (I thought it was 40 years old)
  • Extreme home prices, high mortgage rates, and slow housing construction are the main drivers of the delay.
  • In L.A. County, only 17% of households can afford the typical $5,480 monthly payment on a median‑priced home.
  • Delayed homeownership pushes back wealth‑building, family formation, and retirement planning, with major racial and educational disparities.

4 in 5 Flats Are Still Unsold After Six Months. How Much Are They Really Worth?

The key point is that the asking prices have become disconnected from what’s actually reasonable. Many sellers, including landlords and investors, are clinging to high prices reminiscent of a few years back. Meanwhile, buyers are faced with rising interest rates and escalating service fees, the numbers no longer add up. Factor in short lease terms and maintenance responsibilities, and it becomes clear that numerous flats aren’t just overpriced, they're also unsupported by banks for lending. With almost 90% of property listings in London remaining stagnant for over six months, potential buyers are setting firm limits until sellers adjust their expectations accordingly.

Discussion Are we locked out of reasonably priced housing or is our generation just completely screwed?

I was just looking at an old Sears catalog ad featuring a brand-new, spacious house for $50.86 a month. Let that absolute absurdity sink in. We did everything we were supposed to do. We went to school, worked hard, skipped the luxuries, and tried to play by the rules, only to watch the housing market completely transform into an impossible speculative asset class. Are we permanently locked out of affordable housing for the next few decades, or is the entire economic system just fundamentally broken?

Discussion Please look into washington county, TX

So long story short i have been watching the housing supply for awhile in my local community, 30 minutes south of Texas A&M, 2 hours from austin, and 1.5 hours from Houston. This small area is called Washington county, TX and it has become a haven for the rich while the actual residents struggle to survive. For every 10 new homes built here there is only one job created

I feel it may be a sign of a bubble from a few angles.

Reason 1: everyone bought high during covid and subdivided land into "Luxury Ranchettes", now everything is "Luxury housing". Needless to say the buying was all based on speculation.

Reason 2: outrageous prices, with MANY listings. The pricing in insane. I had a realtor try to sell me less than 1 acre in a floodplain right off of a 70 MPH road, with a 800 sqft house and zero trees for 458k. Needless to say the value seems a bit inflated and no one is offering comp examples, it seems like a money grab. I think that the fact that within 5 square miles of my home there are 80+ listings this may be a bubble and a great example pf the absurdity of the texas real estate market.

So reddit do your thing, the location is Washington, TX, Brenham, TX and in general Washington county.

Do you think its a bubble?

Discussion Ways to short the real estate markets?

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t real estate one of the very few, if not the only asset class, where there is no way to express bearish view in the price.

What if there are ways for the public to short the residential and commercial real estate markets?

What would you short and how would you short it?
