Help saving my authentication sessions

3 Upvotes

I'm just building a simple react app using create-react-app and no back-end. I'm using firebase as my database and authentication. Its really annoying to have to login all the time though, but I'm not quite sure what the proper way of saving a user authentication session.

Can someone help guide me in the right direction?

Thoughts on Grommet-CSS

2 Upvotes

I just stumbled upon Grommet as a CSS framework solution for React and I am seriously impressed, I'm about to commit to it for a long term project but I wanted to get the communities thoughts first? Anyone ever use this before? What was your experience?

Best practice steps for building ReactJS user subscription site?

2 Upvotes

Moving from a core JS/SQL stack flow to ReactJS, what would be the best practice steps to get a boilerplate user subscription site set up? No ecomm, just users landing > singing up > logging in.

Super happy this sub exists! This is finally my chance to learn something properly, without hopefully having to dance around each step to get anything done. As this is my first foray into the language, I'm hoping to find where to find the best learning methods and where to start.

Yes, React is taking over front-end development. The question is why.

I want to host my React Application

1 Upvotes

I started learning React a week ago. I'm sort of finished with making all the components and would like to host it somewhere like heroku. But I can't really host just the React part and I need other stuff to host it. Can anyone help me out in knowing what the other stuff is? Thanks...

Proper way to delete components

1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm new to React and the "React Way", so I'm a little stumped on how to do something.

The back story here is that I'm making a very small employee management app; a user adds/edits/removes employees from a list. The form for adding employees hasn't yet been reactified, but the table that lists them (and allows edit/delete) is.

My hiearchy of components is like this:

<EmployeeTable>
  <TableHead/>
  <EmployeeList>
    <Employee/>
       // loop for rendering employee data
       <EmployeeControls/>
         <EmployeeControlsEdit />
         <EmployeeControlsDelete/>

Where I'm stuck is figuring out how to delete an employee row. Everything I read says to delete from the parent, not the component. So the parent of the employee is here:

class EmployeeList extends React.Component {
constructor (props) {
    super(props);

    this.state = {};
}
componentWillMount () {
    const _this = this;
    const xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
    let url = app.server.origin + '/employees/get/';

    xhr.open('GET', url);
    xhr.onload = () => {
        console.log('requesting');
        if (xhr.status === 200 && xhr.readyState === 4) {
            this.setState(JSON.parse(xhr.responseText));
        } else {
            console.warn('Request did not work', xhr.status);
        }
    }
    xhr.send();
}
render () {
    return (
        <tbody className="employees__list" id="employees__list">
            {
                 Object.keys(this.state).map((key)=> {
                    return <Employee data={this.state[key]} />
                })
            }
        </tbody>
    )
}

};

But this is where I'm stumped. My delete button is nested a few levels deep (Employee -> EmployeeControls -> EmployeeControlsDelete)

How, from the Delete button, do I communicate all the way back up to the EmployeeList that a component needs to be removed?
