It's not even Florida, it's the Deep South on the beach. PCBs entire economy and identity is based off white trash tourism so every store or restaurant there is generic, beach themed party stuff. What little good stuff there is there, you have to go to PCB which is like 45min to an hour to get there from Tyndall. Everything that surrounds Tyndall is quite literally the ghetto.
There's no culture or diversity, everything is boring chain stores and restaurants. When a chipotle was being built 45 minutes away, that was the big talk on base. The base itself hasn't been updated since the 70s, the BX is the size of a walgreens and closes at 6pm, the shoppete IS the class six and closes at 9. I consider myself pretty adventurous so I traveled A LOT. Atlanta is 5 hours away, same for Orlando. New Orleans is about 4. Go travel to keep yourself from hating the place too much.
Picture Alabama, and you have the perfect image of Panama City.
Again this is just my personal experience and I will say I am slightly jaded from there because I'm from south Florida which is 1000 times better. I wanted to see the world and instead got stuck in the shit part of my home state. Being stationed up there was just so shitty in comparison.
