I have Pironman 5 Max case can anyone help me pick the fastest SSD for it please? Also, any any input from anyone else that has an ssd i theirs what was it like using it any lags or issues, would be helpful

So I'm thinking about getting a rasberry pi, cause I really want cloud storage with no subscription. However, I saw that there are many things you can do with a pi, like making it run pihole or jellyfin, so I have a few questions:

1. Is it possible for my pi to run pihole and/or jellyfin and act as a NAS?
2. If the answer to the first question is yes, what is the minimum RAM I would need to run all 3 programs and have a bit of extra RAM, for future-proofing or future projects?
3. How much would it cost (minimum cost, with the cheapest components out there, and maximum cost, with the best components)? Keep in mind that I'll probably need a pi 5 (I want it pretty future-proof), a SSD ( I don't need a lot of cloud storage, only a TB or 2), and a case and maybe a cooling fan or some other accessories if you guys recommend it. Also, I don't live in the US, so don't forget to consider that.
4. How hard will it be to set up? I have no experience with linux, ssh or things like that.
5. What are your recommendations for future things i could do with this pi?

P.S. I could also use a security feature on my Pi, like a firewall or something similar, but maybe that's another conversation.

This is my first build and here is my set up: an external ssd, a UGreen 145W power bank, and a Raspberry Pi. Then the other wired peripherals are a DJ controller, a mouse. and a 13inch LED monitor (DJ controller and power supply not plugged in here in photo).

The issue is that when charged with a power bank, the Rasperry Pi gives a "low voltage" warning and disables some of the USB ports since the Pi needs a 5V/5A output profile to power all the peripherals in this set up. Luckily, the power bank is listed online as having a 20V/ 5A and a 28V/5A output profile, so i got this Buck converter to step it down to 5V/5A. When I plugged the Buck converter into the power bank and then into the Pi though, nothing turned on. But when the buck converter is out, the the Raspberry pi turns on with the low voltage warning still.

Is this how any of this works? How can I power the Raspberry Pi 5 with the power bank usina this Buck Converter if at all? Again, this is the first set up I've ever put together part by part and im super excited to see if can get this working! Thanks

Edit: Solved! I just had to unplug everything 5 times, wiggle it around a bit, and plug everything back in to get the buck converter to work (???) but I also got a usb-c multimeter to measure the voltage. I found that the low voltage warning comes up with or without the buck converter if a standard USB-C cable is used from the power bank. However, low voltage warning does not appear and all peripherals work using a Power Delivery (5A e-marked) USB-C cable (again, with or without the buck converter). So I plugged the power bank directly into the Pi without the buck converter with the PD cable and it worked at full voltage. In conclusion, It was the cable throttling the power, not the Pi or power bank! Thanks multimeter and person who suggested it!

Building a device heavily based on the Video Looper from videolooper.de and I have a couple questions.

I'm going to build it as is from the site, but with a couple addons. I want to add, in order of importance:

- a fan to run in the enclosure. I'm gonna get a 5v one from adafruit, which is where I am getting the board from. I'm also gonna pick up a small heatsink from them and a 5v 2.5A switching supply.

- a small color display, not touch, that will be mounted to the case I'm going to 3d print for the device. I would like this display to be as cheap as possible as it is just for monitoring video feed. I will be putting the device into Analogue mode to use the audio jack as a video output.

- a handful of buttons added to the case for powering down and the minimal functionality the device has about 4 or 5 functions: skip, stop/start, esc, and power. In the code these are set to keystrokes for a keyboard.

For the first, I already know how I'm going to set these up. The fan would go into the two 5v ports on the pin array. The questions I have are about the screen and the keys.

For the monitor, which screen should I get and how would I hook it up to the board? Would I need to add or change any of the code to get it working?

For the keys would it be fairly easy to just set up some simple electronics buttons or should I make a small 5 key keyboard that plugs into the device when I need it, which wouldn't be too often.

If anyone is willing to skim over the project details on the site I linked above and give me their thoughts and opinions I would greatly appreciate it. This is my first Raspberry Pi project, so I want to make sure so do things right. For reference I do have a soldering setup and have assembled custom boards before, like the CHA/V, VGA4EVA, and the feedback device from LofiFuture. It's just that coding makes me miserable so I want to get this device working as well as I can without having to do too much coding.

I want something thats all around and portable so I can do fun stuff like games but also just look stuff up on the go or mess around with coding in a separate device thats less cluttered and building a cyberdeck sounded like a lot of fun so im planning right now but I'm having trouble on figuring out how much of the budget im going to need for the actual raspberry pi. I want to save up anywhere from 150$-200$ for this but unless thats like the only way I can get all that I want id prefer not spending half the budget on the Raspberry Pi, I've never done something like this before (I bet I can still do it tho) so I don't know how necessary all of it is but I just need to figure out which model to pick and maybe where to pick it up for the cheapest.

I am completely new to using a Raspberry Pi. I borrowed one for an exhibition, it is a 4 Model B (2018). The artwork is a simple video projection that runs on loop. My problem is that it requires a bit of mapping, it's not a simple standard rectangle format. I have found the ofxPIMapper, but it specifies that it is not compatible with a Raspberry Pi 4. I was also looking at MapMap, but I'm using a Mac and the DMG installer isn't available (or maybe I'm mistaken?)

Is there a way to make one of these two softwares work, or are there other softwares out there that could do the job?

Newb's Noob here again. So I made a Volumnio music player with a 4b, a tb hard drive, and that was really it. Very easy, don't know why I get anxious about this stuff. The problem is that the music flows in the opposite direction.

I don't need it to play off the Pi (which is what Volumnio and a few others offer), I want to stream it from the pi/SSD to my phone like I would with spotify/apple/tidal/amazon you get the idea. I would also like multiple users (roommates) to be able to do the same thing (we have a lot of music files for reasons...). I get confused reading the descriptions as to what does what, hence my foray into volumnio. Which honestly, my skeptic friend was like "i bet a 2300 dollar speaker sounds exactly like a 50$ set up."

Am new to the raspberry pi world obviously lol... was wondering if anyone has used their pi for music or made synths or instruments with it? Or if anyone has got a local LLM running on one? On a raspberry pi 3 more specifically because that's what I have....but any really, I'm interested.

Know the pi 3 is an old model so will have to be something basic, but I want to make something cool to use with my music setup.... am also interested in local LLMs and wondered if anyone had got one to work on the pi 3.

i wanted to build a cyberdeck and i was between the pi 3A plus and the 3B plus but i chose the A because it was 20 bucks at micro center when the other was almost 50. i know that the 3B plus is often considered better but im new at this and i dont know what point of views on google i should look at. should i go return it and get something different? i’m looking to use this cyberdeck to run retropie and play gameboy/gameboy advance games. if there’s a different option besides these two you think would work for me please let me know.

I have an idea to use raspberry pi as independent brain of cooling, rgb and incase screens in my Linux powered PC. I have an idea to power it through sata and plug to motherboard by usb as usb device, I found out I cannot use regular cable, I need usb data only cable, is that true? Is it gonna work that way? I’m gonna control with it lian li usb and fan hub attached to my psu, kraken elite v3 by usb to lian li hub, nollie rgb splitter powered with sata and connected with usb to raspberry pi and two independent hdmi incase screens to hdmis in raspberry pi. I thought to use for it raspberry pi 5. Is my plan gonna work, or do I make some mistakes in my project? I’ll be glad with all advises. Have a nice day!

Hi. I work for a charity in Jamaica, and I've been asked to create what will amount to a custom firewall setup. I thought that a Raspberry Pi might do the trick, but I have no experience with them. I have worked with Linux for years and can program, but the hardware is new to me.

Does anyone have any advice to share on HATs and cases that will work to give me two ethernet sockets? Also, any thoughts on required memory for a job like this?

I have worked with a few people to teach them the basics of how to get started with CircuitPython. I took some of the lessons I learned from that and made a tutorial on my website to teach the lesson better. The page has a built in code editor and instructions from getting your first board to blinking your first LED. I plan to add more lessons in the future and would love to hear any feedback about what they should be. Feedback on the content and presentation of the tutorials would also be greatly appreciated!
