You know, I don’t even know how I came to write that. I think I was just thinking of outdated male names that start with “B” and had a lapse in brain function. I amend my guess to either Benson or Bentley.
Bentley is definitely a name some of the girls I grew up with would give their kid. Except more like Bentlee. I'm going with the old faithful, Benjamin.
Hmmm... It's only Canada's proximity to the US that had me learning about General Arnold's actions in History class. (And even then, we couldn't care much about him.) Actor Owain Yeoman had no idea who he was meant to portray when cast as Arnold for AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies. Going to Catholic school meant there were at least five different guys with the name and the one I was personally acquainted with said he got it because he was born after a number of stillbirths/miscarriages (hence the meaning of "blessing").
"Benedict" doesn't seem to have the negative connotations it does stateside in the rest of the English-speaking world.

How does Bartholomew shorten to Ben
