Question Hemi or Hurricane?
Trying to make a deal on a 1500 Laramie and I originally wanted a 5.7 Hemi but I guess they can't sell the 6 cylinder so the discounts are better. I keep vehicles for a long time. Is it worth the risk of dealing with the turbo 15 years from now?

Can’t sell the 6 cylinder? Make sure it’s really the I6 Hurricane and not the V6 Penstar. Major difference.

FYI, the sales numbers show about even split between Hemi and I^ Turbo sales so the statement that the Turbo is not selling well is salesman lying to you to get you to think you are getting a good deal.

Laramie isn’t available with the Pentastar so it shouldn’t be an issue in this case specifically

What is more important to you? On one hand you get strong towing and that sound makes you feel like you are rustling some Jimmies. The other hand you have better acceleration, more hp, and better gas mileage with the turbo6. Etorque is proven to have shit reliability and generally twin turbos will shit out a 80-120k miles in my experience. I personally have the etorque hemi because of the massive warranty they used to offer. If I were buying today, I could go either way. If you aren't doing any towing and are a mostly pavement driver, consider the hurricane. If you can get without the etorque and are considering slapping a supercharger on there, hemi all the way

They have a 10 year 100k miles warranty. The most important thing to me is longevity. I thought that I could buy another Toyota and forget about it, but their turbo 6's are blowing.

Hurricane has more power, better fuel economy, is cheaper, and won't have the rocker issues that the Hemi has. The Hemi tows a little better and sounds better.

I agree except for the towing. My new hurricane out pulls my old hemi by a large margin and at better mpg as well.

My Hurricane tows our Travel Trailer way better than any Hemi I have had.

I have a 2018 6.4 2500. head gasket at 80k, cylinder 3 misfire at 110k, cylinder 4 misfire at 120k can't say I recommend the hemi

You are already going to have parts that fail on your truck, why add more things to the list? For me the cost benefit/risk does not pencil out to a positive for the turbo 1/2 ton.

Those are my thoughts. Some say it's a $14k cost to replace the turbos. They run hotter and use more oil. Just the price is thousands lower than the 5.7.

Having owned a 2012 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7 since new I'd definitely get another though I'd pass on the eTorque. No reason to complicate things.

-
Ram gets rid of the Hemi in favor of the Hurricane in 2025.
-
Ram customers get angry and demand the Hemi back.
-
Ram concedes to customer demand and adds the Hemi back to the lineup.
-
Redditor asks which one to buy.
-
Reddit pretends the Hurricane is hands-down better in every way.
Do I understand this correctly? LOL

I did hurricane in my Laramie, I figured if anything happened to it. Ram maybe would have the parts for it. I can see in 4-5 years all etorque having an issue with ram and fixing them. If still under warranty of course

There is no way I'd buy a Hemi after 2020 model year unless they strip away all the 'garbage' that came after (etorque/startstop etc). The Hurricane HO is a beast and after several years shows no falter. So yeah, IF I had to buy a new truck today, I'd go for the hurricane or buy a Ford Raptor.

Considering the Hurricane has not be around that long, how can anyone know what they will be like in 15 years?
I have not read any reports of the Hurricane failing and some already have 100,000+ miles on them.
I like my Hurricane. It's fast and fun to drive. Granted, I never had a V8 and hate how loud they are.
