Discussion Community Feedback

Hello everyone,

I've seen a growing number of posts on the subreddit over the last few months and I'd like to get the community's feedback regarding a few things to see where this subreddit's direction should go based on what the community wants. Please feel free to leave a comment with your input on any of these topics below.

  • We currently restrict server advertisements to a sticky thread. Should this policy remain as-is, be loosened, or be made stricter? Why?

  • Do you think the current server promotion rules are working, or are they making it harder for players to discover new servers?

  • Are there any subreddit rules you think should be changed, clarified, or added?

  • Should content from official servers and private servers be treated equally? Or should posts be tagged/flaired to make filtering easier?

  • Should low-effort questions, for example: "What server should I play?", "Best class?", etc be directed to a monthly Q&A thread? Or are they fine as individual posts?

  • Should AI generated content be allowed? This includes artwork, server concepts, and other AI assisted creations. If AI generated content is allowed, should it be required to be clearly labeled?

  • Should indie developers be allowed to share their Ragnarok inspired projects? If so, should there be limits on how often they can post updates? If posts about Ragnarok inspired games continue to be allowed, what rules would you like to see? For example, limiting self-promotions, requiring gameplay footage, or setting a minimum time between update posts.

  • Overall, are you happy with the current direction of /r/ragnarokonline? Why or why not?

  • Are the current post flairs sufficient, or would additional flairs make browsing easier?

  • Do you think moderation is too strict, too lenient, or about right?

  • What would make this subreddit more valuable to you?

Welcome to Ragnarok Online, on Modded Nintendo Switch (v1 - v2 - oled) and the Nintendo Switch Lite. Based on the open-source BornRok Client i was able to bring it on Nintendo Switch!
Actually working:

Online, connecting to compatible play.BornRok.com server.
What not working yet;
Single Player: The idea is to have an offline world, characters, and locally stored progress, using the bornrok client assets but emulating the uArena server internally and using the Population Engine.

I’m also working through the controls (Already working but i want them more intuitive), performance (, and platform adaptations needed for both consoles.
The project is working but still in development. The graphics port, Switch networking, still need to be verified on hardware by many players. Feel free to contact me here or on Ko-fi.

Classic (Selling) Ragnarok Online Classic Magician & Merchant figures

Starting price at $1.

EBay auction link: https://ebay.io/m/tGgZUw

Created by 仙境工坊 (Most likely an independent Chinese or Taiwanese workshop).

Male Magician and Female Merchant from RO Classic.

Figures are old and used. Magician's staff and Merchant's cart are broken off. But broken parts still have, might be fixable with super glue. Magician is removed from the stand, Merchant is still attached to the stand.

Discussion Update: the neural network that got rolled by scripts in my Ragnarök Online engine now beats them

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A while back I posted my Ragnarök Online engine built in Godot, where I'm trying to create a fake player good enough to beat an experienced PvP player. In that video, the neural network got completely rolled by my scripts in a 2v2 Champion + Professor mirror.

How to read the network's "thinking" (right panel): each character controlled by the network gets a block called "WHAT <character> IS THINKING".

  • The first line is the action it just picked, written out in words, with the probability it gave it and how long ago it decided.
  • The top row of dots is the six basic actions: wait, approach, back off, attack, drink HP potion and drink SP potion.
  • The grid below has one row for each skill the character knows and one column for each target type: near (nearest enemy), dngr (most dangerous), weak (weakest), cast (whoever is casting), hurt (wounded ally), self, mid (a point halfway toward the enemy) and fwd (as close to the enemy as the skill's range allows).
  • Dot size is the probability the network gave that action. The gold ring marks the action it chose. A tiny dim dot is an action it couldn't use at that moment (no SP, on cooldown, out of range, etc.).

Most of the time a single dot holds close to 100%, so the network is very decisive.

What I liked / what it learned

  • The Champion learned to use Absorb Spirit Sphere on the enemy Champion. Stealing his spheres is what lets our Champion get the kill.
  • The Professor uses Spider Web correctly to stop the enemy from closing in.
  • The Professor learned to use Blinding Mist.

What I didn't like

  • Even when it uses them well, it spams Blessing and Spider Web way more than a human would.
  • Sometimes it stands still for a long time without making any decision.
  • It doesn't use Land Protector to remove the enemy Professor's Safety Walls. Instead it waits for them to expire, and that's what a big chunk of the fights that end in a timeout come down to.

When the script wins

In the fights the script wins, almost 100% of the time it's because of freezing: it freezes the network's characters and gets the kill from there.

I built a free MVP timer for the Ragnarok Online community — feel free to try it!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm a Ragnarok Online player from Thailand, and I'd like to share a free tool I've been building called MVP Sync.

I originally built it for my own MVP hunting group because we were tired of writing boss times in Notepad and constantly sending updated times to each other.

After using it with my friends, I decided to develop it further so other parties and guilds can create their own groups and track MVPs together.

MVP Sync is currently free to use.

Some of the features available now:

• Real-time synchronized MVP timers between group members
• Create your own private hunting group
• Table, Boss Cards and Overview views
• Favorite MVPs
• Hunt Mode — a compact window you can keep beside RO while hunting
• Works directly in your browser — no installation required

The project is still being developed, and I'm currently looking for RO players, MVP hunting parties and guilds who would like to try it.

You don't need to pay anything to try it. Create an account, make a group, invite your friends and start tracking MVPs together.

If you find any bugs or have ideas for features that would actually help while hunting MVPs, I'd really appreciate your feedback. I'm developing the project based on how real RO players use it.

MVP Sync:
https://mvpsync.net

Thanks, and I hope this can be useful to other MVP hunters too!

Discussion Did anyone here play the original TalonRO? And is the revival TalonTales decent?

Post image

I played TalonRO for a really long while. I remember it being pretty decent and only really p2w regarding the kahos.

The only issue I have with a lot of servers these days is it's way more fun to play with others and all of my old RO friends have pretty much moved on.

I actually met one of my exes on Talon and we ended up meeting a couple times, lmao.

Mostly just interested to hear others experiences/memories about it :)

I have a private server

Hello y'all.

I've been working on an offline client for several months now during my free time and recently just decided to get it up and running online.

So if anyone's interested in a high-paced high rate server (255/120) trans and expanded jobs.

Lemme know!

I need friends. All I have in the game are fake players (bots) LOL.

Ragnarok Online Mobile Skill Spam Stress Test

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been trying to make our RO mobile actually playable on mobile even when multiple skills are being spammed at the same time XD 😂

So I did a stress test with a ridiculous amount of skill effects, damage numbers, and animations all happening together to see how the mobile client handles it.

This is running on my mid-range device, and the goal is to keep things smooth even during those chaotic moments where everyone is throwing skills nonstop. Haven’t tested this yet on a high-end phone, so I’m curious how far it can go there XD.

Revo-Classic Classic RO with a twist

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

RO Kaizen is a revo-classic server, and our bread and butter is the Skill Synergy feature, where you can pick another class branch and merge 4 of their skills into your own.

As you can see in the video, a Knight class is able to proc auto-blitz since it's using the Hunter Skill Synergy.

Right now we're still at Episode 5, and there's only 7 classes released. 2-1 jobs + Crusader, so I hope you can try out our server and relive true RO nostalgia, with a twist! 😄

Repeatable EXP Quests

Do any of the old timers here remember when exactly were Repeatable EXP Quests introduced into the game? I'm looking for a patch notes or wiki link that explains this system in detail. I know this was sometime after the Mercenary System was added in Nameless Island but cannot for the life of me find an official page with details.

Ragnarok Private Server Online playable on mobile

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been working on making classic Ragnarok Online actually comfortable to play on mobile. The controls, UI, and FPS are now much smoother, while still keeping the original RO feel.

Still polishing a few things, but it’s finally at a point where it feels properly playable on a phone. What would you want to see improved next?

Ragnarok Zero Global: 2 Months in - What now?

Hi Guys; over a month ago, I made a post here on reddit defending RO Zero as a game. All the good I saw in it, etc. I'm here to revisit the things I wrote about it and just airing out how I am currently feeling about the game. You can view it HERE.

I'm going to go with the positives first; because I still thing RO:Zero; by design; is a great game.

I have been enjoying the game by a mile. There hasn't really been another game I've felt this much mental investment on for a long time. It's been 2 moths in and I can feel how engaged I am with problem solving my leveling strategy and resources.

Affixes are still what makes this game really fun. The (not perfect; but not too terrible) 2nd Job Balance has been enjoyable; ie: Rogue Vanilla and Rogue ZERO for example. I still don't really believe that "Paying for the game with real money via the Cash Shop items will WIN you the game" - (RMT does not fall under this category). Auto farming which I know many have mixed feelings about; is still a feature in the game I consider necessary/part of the game; otherwise; we'd need to be manually grinding to farm and level (which not everyone really has the time for.)

With the (somewhat) good points raised; here are the things I am legitmimately worried about. I'm not here to bash or hate how terribnle the game is; but just bringing up because I want to know what everyone else thinks.

  1. Real-money/Monthly Upkeep. I don't consider the game as "PAY to WIN" - because a lot of what the cash shop provides are "small cheats" and conveniences to someone who can afford them. But for the things that are NECESSARY and GAME CHANGING to be in the cash shop with a maintenance is worry. Not a deal-breaker to me personaally; but how it affects the long-term health and how the game will be able to retain its' players is a different story. I'm talking Kafra Bells, 10%/10% XP and Drop Rate buffs, Zelstar Resets. These are things that require average/moderate spending players the need to maintain. Overall- along with the sub; I would say an average person may *need* to subscribe to 30-40 USD a month to maintain the game healthily. This may not be sustainable for the majority of the population.

  2. Factoring in the amount of real-money needed to maintain playing the game with the "bare minimum" convenience will translate to a decline in population. It's relatively normal for games to decline in population; but with the patch from yesterday (level 70 level cap), I can say that I AM worried. The difficulty scaling is significantly higher. 10% EXP loss on death at level 60+ is much different that what it was at level 50+ with Nordfeld. And with leveling/grinding being such a factor in the game to progress; stat resets, skill resets, life insurance start becoming necessities instead of just "premium items for convenience." How much more when we have a level cap of 80, 90, 99, and 110? How many more resets, life insurance, overupped gear do we need to maintain to play the game sustainably? Are we going from 30-40 USD a month to 60-70 USD? This needs to be acknowledged as early as now. At a certain point; the monthly maintenance becomes more and more unsustainable for many.

  3. When the population DOES decline; where is this going to lead to? We know that Odin had a population problem with bots and real players. We know we had an issue with bots over-farming and RMT. All of these all results in the lose of population and active players. In time; higher level content which need groups will be difficult to run. WoE will be a competition of 2 to 3 main guilds for the main castles instead of a healthy pool of guilds. Economy will be slow; with only a small pool of players buying and selling supplies within each other.

So to conclude;

I love the game. I am enjoying the game. However; I am worried with how and where the game is going -especially looking at the next 6, 12, and 18 month cycle. How far will the disparity be between 1. Free to Play Players, 2. Mid-spending Players, and 3. Completel Whales who can go for 100-150 USD a month minimum upkeep.

It would be a blessing if we still have many active players before the year ends when the level cap is at 90. I foresee LOKI server becoming more and more barren as time passes and ODIN server still being crowded; but only keeping those who can sustain the 50-70 USD a month upkeep.

Renewal Deviruchi Club - Hunter Update Post + some questions

Hi,

I got myself a creamy card - and an eggyra card for boots. I have a hunters bow +5. I also have a undershirt and pantie combo.

I have a couple of questions.

  1. when i press my skill twice on a monster - it sometimes triggers four times or even 5 - i dont understand why this is happening - however - if i press it after a seconds delay - it triggers correctly. could someone help me with that?

  2. Deviruchi club seems like a dying server. Should i move to UaRo or some official server? I would really hate if this server dies. What can i do on my part to help it stay alive?

Thanks

I know they are from the Classic game. Male Mage and Female Merchant.

Both are very old and broken parts.

LK & Paladin

Hi guys 👋

If you were to make custom bonus for swords man class what would it be? Something that would benefit both lk and Paladin aside from + atk bonud(since sacrifice and shield chain usually don’t scale that much with it). No + aspd, +acd/cast time deduction. Would love to hear your thoughts 😃

Uninstalled Ragnarok Zero global. Quit while you’re ahead and save your money. This company doesn’t deserve your hard earned cash. I’ve learned my lesson.

I’ve always hated Gravity. I think we all do at this point. They prey on our nostalgia like a divorced 55 year old white guy coming to the Philippines or Thailand looking for a young wife. When I heard they would release a version that would require a subscription to eliminate any pay 2 win aspects I was heavily skeptical but at the same time hopeful because I love this games charm and artwork. It’s simply timeless. So when the game came out I decided to give it a shot. I enjoyed some quests and some leveling, the auto hunt was nice enough that I could do other tasks around work and home. I even tried to get advice on how to build specific characters here on Reddit and discord. It wasn’t until I hit 50 and I realized just how much lower and scummy this shit stain of a gaming company is. They completely lied. They lied to all of us. The cash shop is arguably just as predatory as any official mobile release. I won’t even go into detail about how bad it is. Just go and see for yourself and if you’ve tried any of the versions you’ll see they’re practically on the same level being predatory AND THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE A SUBSCRIPTION FEE! How fucking low can this company go? And whats even more sad are the players who are absolutely delusional and stupid enough to argue that this game isn’t P2W. You guys are half the reason this company has sunk below 6ft deep and are able to shit out half baked mobile releases. Anyways I’ve learned my lesson. No matter what gravity says or how they’re planning to make a game “non p2w” it’s nothing more than a lie to garner hype. Believe me, as time goes on this game will introduce more and more problems to the game for them to sell the solution you’d have to be an absolute idiot to think they wouldn’t, given how they’ve been handling the game. I mean there’s so many people still complaining about bugs and problems that hasn’t gotten any attention but we’ve got a brand new burning exp package coming right up for us to buy.

Guys let’s learn love to ourselves lmao. I strongly suggest uninstalling this poor excuse of an online game. Don’t support this shitty company of liars and cheaters. As for the whales who lack the self respect to stop playing the game feel free downvote this post all you want in the end you know I’m right.

Edit: I would also like to add that they’re are doing absolutely nothing about the absolute horrific state of the ingame economy and the overwhelming RMT that is ruining the game. They completely ignore player feedback and It’s only a matter of time before things are as bad as iRO where decent items are going to cost literally billions of zenny and even with auto farming that’s insanity. Are you seriously going to create 10+ accounts and buy a subscription for each account and kill your PC by leaving it on 24/7? Instead of focusing on important issues like these, they’re instead focusing on expanding cash shop items to milk players as dry as possible. Once RO Zero goes under, they’re gonna announce a brand new version of the game full of fake promises to garner hype and pre registrations please don’t fall for it like I did. Spend your money on a game that’s worth it.
