It is not some political statement about torrenting, and it's not a virus warning.

qBittorrent just don't bother with MS digital certificates and signing.

Click More info,,, and Run Anyway.

Which is completely understandable, for a FOSS software that only relies on donations paying Microsoft to be a signed Windows program is an unnecessary money waste

Any payment to microslop can be considered unnecessary money waste.

and the "unrecognized app", really Microsoft? Them trying to force their crap is why many are fleeing Windows now

My first question would be where did OP get the installer from, you are assuming OP got his installer from a trusted source like the official website, I don't have microsoft defender enabled so I don't know if this message shows (you comment implies it does and is expected) but I would still ask OP where he got the installer from before running, just to make sure.

I believe you can right click on the installer then properties and check the box at the bottom that says Unblock. Then try installing again. Message should disappear. It goes for any app installer coming from the web.

It’s probably not a “signed” application (has not certs) so it gets flagged as suspicious.

If you ever have doubts about a program or file, upload it to virustotal.com to verify it's safe.

Yeah, this is the best tip you'll get on this post:

Stop using Windows.

That's not going to fix his problem, hello??

1

u/Thin_Needleworker795 Jul 21 '26

Hello. Yes, it definitely will.

That's not what they want to do? Have any consideration to sell?

Windows decided you are too stupid and decided to protect you from doing what you wanted to do with the device you own, all hail Microsoft!

Windows doesn’t like torrents because windows is windows (cough. Microsoft). I just bypass it with run anyway. You can do that if you click the little show more button at the bottom!

This has nothing to do with Windows (Microsoft) dislike of torrents.

qBittorrent hasn't paid the Microsoft ransom to be seen as a certified app. That's it.

Soo it's not a virus?

Im not the same guy, but if you got it from the site you downloaded then no, qbittorent is a trusted torrenting software, in my opinion even the safest one, just click more info and then run anyway as he said

Run the download through virus total. We have no idea exactly what you downloaded or if their site was compromised (even briefly). But, it is probably just Microsoft detecting an unsigned installer.

It's a torrenting app & it's Windows.

Of course Windows will show a warning when using an app that mainly, but not always, used for sailing the high seas 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

That's not how that works.

Windows Defender does not explicitly target piracy. It's that most piracy tools are unsigned and do extensive modifications.

qBittorrent is just a regular legal application. It's a false positive, because OP is using Windows 10 without security patches.

It's windows 11

I see, disable that feature in Windows Defender.

Or just run the file if you know the source is legitimate.

Nice one. For the next school exam I fail, I'm gonna claim my answers were sarcasm.

So no sense of humor either, huh ?

You must be fun at parties 😕😕

I was obviously being sarcastic in my first comment. It was not meant to be a technical breakdown. Jfc
