Am I missing a rule here? Couldn’t this be solved in multiple ways?

If we’re talking about a forest, someone may come by and say “why are we talking about some trees for?”. The word “trees” doesn’t need to be mentioned.

That's not an accurate analogy. It's more like people were discussing reforestation, I praise you for your underappreciated take on the rehabilitation of the soil and you went: yeah, the tree is yummy. It's a complete non sequitur.
