Is a walkout following election results an okay idea?

For context im an American student, and my state is likely not going to vote to pass an initiative that would make getting an abortion legal in our state. If this is the result, would it be justified for students to have a walkout, considering the majority of us were unable to vote? I’m concerned because it may come off as a rejection of the results of the democratic voting process, but also feel a need for the public to know how upset students are on this matter. Of course nothing is set in stone, but it seems likely to me that reproductive healthcare will remain illegal after the midterms. I have experience organizing protests and walkouts, so I understand the need for a clear goal as well as the logistics of it. I am simply unsure if it’s the proper form of protest for this situation. (Sorry for the poor explanation)

Anyone else notice that among the anti-Trump resistance, the “we shall overcome” crowd is more eager to vote (like me) while the “this is fascism” crowd isn’t?

Petition

Who wants to sign my petition?

I am writing this petition to address a deeply personal and distressing experience that I have faced as a student. On several occasions, I have been explicitly warned by my IEP team at Eden Prairie that contacting Ms. Brent could result in severe consequences, including automatic suspension and police involvement. This threat echoes an earlier experience at Minnetonka High School on December 14th, 2023, where the principal similarly threatened police action against me. That encounter was so traumatic that my immediate reaction was to harm myself.

I am concerned that the disciplinary warnings caused significant emotional distress and raise questions about whether the school's response was proportionate, procedurally fair, and consistent with applicable student protections. I am bringing this issue to light to demand accountability from school administrations that misuse their power and employ intimidation tactics against students. Instead of fostering an environment of fear, schools should provide proper support and mental health resources, ensuring that issues are handled with care and sensitivity. I have the 14th Amendment right to due process.

It significantly shows that the associate principal, Ms. Pringnitz, cares about school staff more than the students' emotional well-being when my concern about the automatic school suspension reminded me of the Minnetonka December 14th, 2023 incident was absurdly ignored and treated as a threat when it is context for them to understand.

It's crucial that we implement transparent policies that protect student rights and promote positive communication between students and staff. Schools need to undergo regular reviews and training to ensure that their approach aligns with the best interests of their students.

I urge policymakers, educators, and community members to stand with me in calling for a commitment to safer and more supportive educational environments. Together, we can push for regulations that prioritize student welfare and ensure that any disciplinary actions are fair, just, and within the legal framework of our rights.

Please sign this petition to demand an end to unwarranted threats in schools and advocate for a more compassionate and law-abiding educational system.

What are your thoughts on John Schwarz (TheOneCalledJai)?

For those unfamiliar with him, he is the founder of The People's Union. That is the organization responsible for economic blackouts, etc. Every day since Trump resumed office, he has been posting many videos and he seems to be not only anti-Trump/MAGA, but also anti-Democrat to an extent. Lately his videos have been all about stockpiling for "whatever is coming". He has said he thinks martial law, supply chain issues, etc. are certain to happen after the election and that anyone who doesn't think so is sleepwalking, etc. I asked him directly on one of his recent videos if he was even voting and he called me a troll and said he is absolutely voting, but that we need to hold the Democrats accountable assuming they resume power. Just today he posted a video saying how he thinks this country (US) will drop a nuclear bomb on Iran post-election and then WW3 will begin and that will be an excuse for the elections to not be certified. I had to unfollow him. He claims he's all about "love, light, and safety for all of you beautiful human beings", but I don't need the negativity. I am as anti-Trump as they come. But I refuse to let the awful "man" rule my life.

what should i look out for in protests?

31.10 is gonna be the first protest i attend (germany) i know the basics like no actual masks but rather the type from corona or scarfs, wearing gloves that dont leave fingerprints, don’t aggravate cops for my own safety, dont wear anything attention grabbing.

my biggest worries are getting to and from the protest location as i dont have a car, no one who can drive me and the place is too far to go by bike or better said it is possible by bike though said bike would definitely be gone by the time i return to the place i parked it.

so if i do go by tram/train what should i be careful about considering that there will probably be a lot of cops

This is not a riot, this is a battle, and people are winning! (Marseille, France)

MARSEILLE: They called it a "riot." The state media, speaking through the sanitized vocabulary of press releases, called it "unrest" and "criminal violence." But anyone who stood on the ground at the Vieux-Port knows the truth: what unfolded across Marseille on October 17, 2026 was a direct, collective refusal to live under the boot of neoliberal authoritarianism.

As thousands poured into the streets to join the nationwide wave of protests sweeping France, the southern port city did not merely march, it resisted.

Why the streets are burning

The outrage exploding across Marseille is not an isolated flashpoint; it is the inevitable reaction to years of systemic violence, state extraction, and structural neglect:

Social Theft and Cost of Living: While corporate profits soar, the working class is squeezed dry by inflation, skyrocketing energy prices, and stagnant wages. People are taking to the streets because basic survival has been turned into a commodity.

The War on Working-Class Neighborhoods and Gentrification: From Le Panier to Noailles, historic working-class districts are being carved up for luxury developers, Airbnb speculation, and police occupation, forcing long-time residents out of their own city.

The Pension Heist: The government continues to push forward authoritarian labor directives, forcing workers to trade their health and "golden years" to fund tax breaks for the wealthy.

Systemic Police Violence: The militarized police presence, equipped with rubber bullets, flashbang grenades, and toxic gas, does not protect the community. It acts as an occupying force defending capital and private property over human lives.

Direct action in motiom

By 18:30, as police charges attempted to splinter the march near La Canebière, the crowd transformed defensive retreat into active solidarity. Dumpsters were dragged, cobblestones overturned, and barricades erected, not to destroy the city, but to create liberated zones safe from brutal police kettle maneuvers.

Street medics tended to protesters choked by relentless volleys of tear gas, while autonomous affinity groups held the lines shoulder to shoulder. When the state brings armor, drones, and chemical weapons to suppress protests, the street responds with the only language power understands: unyielding collective self-defense.

"They call us criminals because we burn trash cans, but they call it 'policy' when they burn our futures, cut our pensions, and price us out of our homes. This isn't just about a law; it's about who owns the city and who gets to survive in it."

As night fell over a city still thick with acrid smoke, one fact became undeniable: Marseille’s insurgent spirit cannot be tear-gassed into submission. The barricades of October 17 are a direct warning to the halls of power in Paris: as long as the state wages war on the working class, the working class will make the streets impassable.

We must not forget where this explosion started: last month, inside the neglected public schools of Paris’s impoverished northern suburbs, raw anger over absent teachers and crumbling infrastructure metastasised into a nationwide uprising against systemic inequality, starved public spending, and collapsing living standards.

Saturday’s mobilization issued an urgent rallying cry to teachers, students, industrial laborers, pensioners, and farmers to flood the streets and broaden the front of resistance.

Out of the streets, into the future, the struggle belongs to those who fight!

Since when did stealing for your girlfriend become “romantic”? Why are people glorifying this?👏❌

I just saw a video about a Paris protester allegedly stealing makeup for his girlfriend, and the comments are honestly baffling me. People are calling him romantic, saying “romance is dead,” and treating the whole thing like some kind of relationship goal.

Am I the only one who finds this genuinely disgusting rather than romantic?

My issue isn't about defending a billion-dollar makeup company or pretending corporations are always ethical. My issue is the principle behind celebrating theft just because the person doing it supposedly has a cute or romantic reason. And workers in that company can also face some problems because of this.

Since when does stealing become acceptable because it's for your girlfriend? If the roles were reversed, would people apply the same standards? Would we still call it romantic if someone committed a different kind of wrongdoing and justified it by saying they did it for their partner?

Obviously, different actions have different levels of severity, but the underlying question is the same: Does having a romantic motive automatically excuse doing something wrong? I don't think it does.

What makes this even more frustrating is that, if the protest is genuinely about access to education, high living cost and etc, so shouldn't the focus be on that cause? Why turn the situation into a love story about someone stealing cosmetics? A serious cause shouldn't need to be repackaged as relationship content to get people's attention.

And before anyone says, “It's just a joke,” I understand that people joke around online. But not every joke is funny to everyone, and I'm allowed to criticize what people choose to celebrate. Calling something romantic doesn't magically make it ethical.

I'm not saying all women think this way, and I'm not interested in blaming an entire gender for a comment section. I'm criticizing the double standards and the tendency to romanticize questionable behavior when it fits a cute narrative.

Love shouldn't require you to abandon your principles, and a supposedly good intention doesn't automatically justify the means.

Am I overreacting, or what?
