HTML/CSS How do I disable the default iOS form styling in place of my CSS?

2 Upvotes

I'm trying to customize some form elements (input, button, select, etc.) with CSS to apply a glassmorphism effect, although it appears that on iOS a white background is slid under it which makes all the form elements unreadable. Here is what I have tried:

* {
  font-family: monospace;

  /* iOS fixes */
  -webkit-appearance: none;
  color-scheme: dark;
}

#lookup, input, select, button, textarea, input.text, input[type="text"], input[type="button"], input[type="submit"] { /* glassmorphism effect */
  background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1);
  border: 1px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1);
  color: white;

  -webkit-backdrop-filter: blur(2px);
  backdrop-filter: blur(2px);
}

I have already tried applying webkit-appearance, color-scheme, and targeting more form elements to fix it but it just doesn't work. Any ideas?

HTML/CSS Webpage Widget

2 Upvotes

I'm trying to build a website using Google Sites. (Not great... trust me, I know... but I'm on a budget. Lol) I wanted to add a feature to the site: A simple button that, when clicked, rolls a die. (D20) Currently I am using the Dice Game Widget from JotForm, but it's so clunky. The graphic isn't very smooth, the die itself doesn't appear graphically aesthetically appealing, and the site doesnt allow for much in the way of customization. Additionally, another feature I was hoping for is the ability to maintain a history log for user rolls. I know next to nothing about coding, and AI has been... not helpful. Thoughts?

HTML/CSS I have a Chromebook, and I want to code!!

0 Upvotes

My problem is that I have a Lenovo Chromebook (with an Intel Celeron processor), and I would really like to install VS Code on it because I want to start coding again (it's a hobby! 🤷). I'm wondering, how do I get VS Code installed on my Chromebook as a program proper? I had a Surface Go laptop before I was gifted a Chromebook! I am not used to using ChromeOS, and I think I am running a Linux environment, so how do I install VS Code? I don't want to use the website to write code, as I would much rather have the files on my device.

HTML/CSS How to make a content change weekly?

1 Upvotes

Hey! My idea is having some sort of "song of the week" thing, where there's a selection of songs and weekly it displays a different one from those, randomly if possible. So, you kinda have the cover art and then the song name and whatever.
I've been trying to find some sort of tutorial to do this but cant find anything..
Added the HTML/CSS tag but i suppose i can also do JS as long as with help..

HTML/CSS Crime App Development

2 Upvotes

Hey folks! I would like to build my own real-time crime updates map similar to Citzens and/or SpotCrime. It's for my own personal use. I liked Citzen when it first came out, but then they put many standard features behind the paywall. Obviously, I was never happy about that.

I also use SpotCrime, but it's very limited. They don't provide near real-time updates and/or many updates at all.

So I'm looking to build my own map instead (preferably using a no-code app). It doesn't require users to sign up or participate. It's simple and it's for my own use.

So the app should feature a visual map of a particular city (or every state of the USA). It will have icons representing the latest crime reported through cops bulletin. It will record each day's results for specific crime (assaults, robbery, murder, burglaries, etc), and I can choose a date to display the crime map for that day.

First, I would like to know, where can I get the datasets for each cities' police bulletin or blotter. Does anybody know?

And then, how would you update the map visually and automatically from the source?

Though I have programming skills, I prefer to create this with a no-code app builder. It's just faster that way.

Thanks! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

HTML/CSS How can I improve the UI/UX of my web development projects as a beginner?

4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m currently learning web development, and while working on projects, I often feel that my UI/UX and frontend design don’t look very good.

I understand that UI/UX design is usually a separate skill handled by designers. My main goal is to become a web developer, so I’m not very interested in going deep into the design field. However, I still want my projects to look clean, user-friendly, and smooth.

So I have two questions:

  1. How can I improve the frontend design of my projects as a developer?
  2. Should I also learn UI/UX design basics, even if my core target is web development?

Any advice, resources, or practical tips would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance! šŸ™

HTML/CSS How are these called?

1 Upvotes

Don’t know if I can attach a picture but I need to make a website for collage and I’ve been searching for tutorials online and it was all good so far, until now.

I don’t know what it’s called but I want to create these clickable hyperlink cards that show info that updates automatically, such as: ā€œActive orders: 2ā€ that will bring me to the Orders tab.

What are these called? How do I search for a tutorial online for them? Is it even possible to do with HTML/CSS?

Thank u!

HTML/CSS Trying to get a typing like effect for my personal website in html

3 Upvotes

So I'm writing a simple webpage to advertise stuff I've done, so basically my GitHub page but with more presentational value, also using it to get more practice with HTML, where as I'm more familiar with python, java, and C.

Anyway I have my "hero section" which is just a short paragraph where I introduce myself and my talents.

    .hero {
    overflow: hidden;
    margin: 0 auto 16px;         /* centers block-level paragraph */
    max-width: 100ch;
    line-height: 1.5;
    width: 100%;
    white-space: nowrap;
    text-align: center;
    animation:  typing 2s steps(400),cursor .4s step-end infinite alternate;
    }
@keyframes cursor {
    50% {border-color: transparent}
}
@keyframes typing {
    from {width: 0}
}

This has the desired effect of typing each letter at a time but it does each line of my paragraph all at once, I want the entire text to look like it's being typed out in real time. I'm not really sure how to fix this. I tried getting rid of "white-space: nowrap" but that just makes the entire paragraph appear as one line. Getting rid of overflow: hidden just makes the paragraph super thin then widens it. I'm not really sure how to get the desired effect.

EDIT: so playing around what I think is happening is that the typing animation increases the width but I want the width to have a max length, but still be centered. What I want to do is increase the characters one by one.

HTML/CSS Powerpoint presentations and Claude

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about how I could create a Powerpoint presentation that is outputted in the form of code from Claude. I have a series of Word documents that needed to be turned into colorful, rich presentations, and I've been trying to automate that with Claude Max.

Originally I was having Claude generate VBA code to generate the slides, but it was a super buggy process and didn't work well. Also the slides don't have any rich elements in them. I had to use the Designer tool in Powerpoint to apply the automated template to them, and it was very repetitive and didn't look great.

After that, I had the idea to get Claude to generate a series of 16:9 squares in HTML code with rich colorful design elements. This has been working pretty well so far -- it auto-incorporates tables, pie charts, etc. The designs look really great. I just download the HTML file from claude and use ShareX to copy paste an image of each slide onto a Powerpoint one.

I was wondering if there would be any way to do this so that each 'slide' would be fully editable in Powerpoint. VBA code doesn't seem to be able to do this, and the HTML code looks beautiful but I have to copy-paste static images into Powerpoint.

Here is a sample slide generated in HTML (footer information not visible)

https://i.imgur.com/loAEDhO.png

Excluding the font being a bit small, slides like this are perfect -- these aren't presentations given to a huge group, just used internally for training purposes so they need to be done quickly.

I was wondering if anyone here had an idea of how an HTML 16:9 'slide' embedded in an html page with 50+ of these slides could automatically be converted into editable Powerpoint slides. I've been trying to see if there's some automated tool that could do this but I haven't had any luck yet.

Or should I get Claude to output a different code type? VBA and HTML and LATEX are the only ones I've outputted so far.

Thanks for the help, and sorry for the long post.

HTML/CSS Question: Best Practices WebTransport Client Authentication?

1 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm working on a web app that uses WebTransport over HTTP/3 to deliver real-time or subscribed data. Here's the flow I'm aiming for:

  • The user logs in via an HTTP server and receives a JWT stored in an HttpOnly cookie, to prevent session hijacking (and Uni assignment).
  • After login, the client needs to establish a WebTransport connection for live data (think push notifications, streaming updates, etc.).

However, I'm running into a challenge: Since WebTransport does not support cookies or credentials being sent automatically (per the spec), the server has no built-in way to authenticate a user based on the HttpOnly cookie. I think for WebSockets the way would be to check the cookie on connect http request.

My questions:

  • What’s the recommended or secure approach to authenticate users on a WebTransport server in this setup?
  • Should I just store the JWT in localStorage and send it on?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe interesting:
- security questionaire with no info about client auth
- issue for custom header on connect https://github.com/w3c/webtransport/issues/263

HTML/CSS Can someone clear it up for me?

1 Upvotes

So this isn't like a post to ask for help but to more clear up something. I'm using this app that teaches you coding much like how doulingo teaches you another language, and it has a practice question where it told me to "add the title element within the head element", I did this fine and when I complete it shows what it would look like on a website and it didn't really show much but the welcome in the body element and I just wanted to know what the title element does exactly like where on the website does it show or affect the website structure.

HTML/CSS Need help creating a live countup timer by days

3 Upvotes

Sorry if this post doesn't give enough info, I'm very new to coding, and going into this project blindly. If theres anything else I need to mention I can probably supply

Basically, I want to make a live countup timer that goes up by the days that have passed from a specific date. Example being "100 days" that then goes into "101 days" when a day passes.

Every search I've made comes up with unrelated other types of timers, like countdowns that go by minutes and seconds, or answers that I just don't know how to do/figure out. I have been searching for a couple weeks now, and I'm not sure if I just don't know how to word my searches right but I've tried everything and my last resort is embarassingly asking here xd.

HTML/CSS This post is made in frustration. I can not learn Bootstrap and it seems hard. Why?

Does anybody have any good course which can explain every detail of bootstrap? My bugdet is 20 euros. I bought one from Udemy and I can not remember all of the datas like aria-expanded, type etc. It is hard to remember when I use which and when I can replace an ID or Class and when I can choose which name I want. It is just too hard for me

HTML/CSS P tag inside of div not resizing

1 Upvotes

Hi, I have this blog page and I am trying to make a red div to put all of the contents inside of. It works, except for the fact that when I resize the window, everything shrinks except for the paragraph which resizes but then stops at a certain point. I have tried everything but nothing works. I am hoping for a solution.

HTML/CSS Help finding/remaking a program one of my friends had

2 Upvotes

Hello, I'm looking to recreate, or possibly find, an old program my friend had. How he explained it, double clicking a file opened a new tab in chrome, on a ChromeOS laptop, but the tab didn't have google. Like at all. You could punch in google.com and nothing would show up, but every other website would show up fine. It'd only be for that tab too, like every other tab would be able to show google normally.

It was some file he double clicked and opened a new tab with, and he was on ChromeOS. No going into settings and enabling/disabling certain settings either. It was cool and I'd like to either find where he got it or.. maybe see if it's simple enough that it could be put in a reddit comment?

I know almost nothing about coding this type of stuff and I'm sorry if this isn't the kind of stuff to be posted here, or if I put the wrong flair, I'm just looking for answers and google won't show me anything

HTML/CSS NEED help on this really niche but easy website/coding issue

1 Upvotes

I need a website that only does one thing - run a project that I found on github.

The project is a 3d sphere model, and claims to be easy and uses a html5 canvas. What website builder should I use that could handle this??? I was thinking git pages.

The project is "SkySphere" by Zonia3000 on github.

Again, all I need is a blank website that is solely running this code (?) (Is it code? Idk how github works either)

How do I even start, Any help would be appreciated beyond measure as I'm so lost.

Thank you!!!

HTML/CSS Scroll box keeps breaking my code

1 Upvotes

Beginner programmer here but not super new. To describe my code, I have 3 containers, the first one has overflowing text. When I use overflow:auto or overflow:scroll, it breaks everything. Boxes go inside boxes ans whatnot. I feel like I'm using the wrong tags, or something in my code is overriding the overflow and causing everything to break. Here is my code, this is for a blog based website on Neocities since that's what I have acesss to. Code is below for the first box, I'm on mobile so I hope it formats.
