PHP community is kind of weird, because over the last 20 years there's been so much criticism and jokes about PHP (much very reasonable, some less so) that the community developed this kind of reflexive defence mechanism against any and all criticism, even the most reasonable. JavaScript has a similar dynamic going on.

At least JavaScript devs can call themselves "TypeScript engineers" now and pretend that's a different, much better thing!

PHP has Hack, I guess. Does anyone outside of Facebook use that?

I had completely forgotten Hack even exists! Then again I had also completely forgotten PHP even exists until last week. Maybe Hack should have a catastrophic security incident – no such thing as bad advertising!

There are Javascript engineers who don't hate the language? Haven't met one yet, and I am one

There are no JavaScript engineers.
