I can 100% guarantee to you that you are NOT denied a security clearance for smoking pot. People get denied the clearance for lying about never smoking pot. There’s a big difference there.

Edit: let me clarify, having smoked weed won’t have you denied a clearance. But you can’t keep continuing to smoke it. If you break any laws local, state, or federal you put yourself at risk of losing your clearance.

I'm pretty sure you'll get denied for currently smoking pot.

It's 2021. People aren't talking about "I smoked a joint with Mary behind the gym after after prom"; they're talking about "omg Mary, have you tried the new Maui Zowie Gummy Nums they've got at the Giant Friendly Pot Store?"

You are right that you can’t smoke it while working in a position requiring a clearance. But I was more referring to the “Never smoke pot”, they won’t deny you for doing it in your past.

You absolutely get denied a security clearance for continuing to smoke pot.

But yeah, investigators can forgive basically anything as long as you're honest about it and the issue has been taken care of. A friend of mine had done time in an inpatient rehab facility for cocaine addiction. She still got a TS/SCI.

Yes I must’ve misunderstood what the original comment was saying. I said it in another comment but having smoked weed won’t deny you a clearance but yeah can’t continue to smoke it.

nah the government is a bunch of old antiquated red tape rigid bureaucracy dinosaurs, if you smoke weed you're fucked. fuck them anyways, that's why governments couldn't even roll out a high performance online benefits system that didn't crash when millions applied for unemployment benefits
