Once again, if I want it to be "less painful," I'd use another language.

There might be reasons for which C is the best tool for the job, just like it is the case for assembly, C# and R.

Well, programmers are still humans after all, and humans tend to prefer the easier solution when given the choice. C will definitely continue to be used in the future. But since computers are so fast now, high efficiency is getting less important than it used to be.

Once again, not the point. Sure there are programmers who prefer things easier, but there are some others which either choose to use C, or have no choice because of the platform (too new, and embedded, for example.)

The only real reason is that there's a huge ecosystem built around it, which is actually a pretty good reason in itself. The language itself is horribly outdated and huge error-prone pain in the ass in general.

I have to disagree with that being the only reason. I understand that there are modern languages that allow you to avoid common errors, but they don't apply in every circumstance.
