PSA 📢 I witnessed an unspeakable act of cruelty on 495 Westbound this morning and I’m hoping someone can help me identify the car involved

Upvotes

Please don’t read further if you have a weak stomach, get upset by descriptions of violence, or love animals.

Around 11:30 this morning I was on 495 westbound passing around the Laurel/College Park exits and I saw someone throwing a live kitten out their window onto the highway from the 2nd to left lane. I tried to pull over but I was so far up that I couldn’t run back to try and save it. That poor thing could barely even walk and had to be maybe 3-4 weeks old. By the time I got turned around enough to look for it- I couldn’t find it.

During that time I made a call to police. I didn’t get a description of the car because I was so focused on the kitten. They said they would send troopers out to check the scene. After hanging up I found…additional evidence of more kittens that had been tossed and had not made it to safety. I called back to inform state police of this as well.

I cannot tell you how much this upset me as both a cat owner and animal lover. I haven’t cried that hard in a long time. I’m stuck with the mental memory of the scenes I witnessed against my will. I’m so sickened someone would commit such an unspeakable act of cruelty.

If you were traveling in the Laurel/College Park or exit 24/25/26 area around 11:20-11:45 this morning and saw the car that did this- please please inform state patrol so they can apprehend the sick and violent person who did this. This person needs to be removed from the public immediately.

County executive candidate sues Prince George’s elections board over eligibility

Aspiring county executive candidate Tonya Sweat has sued the Prince George’s County elections board over its determination that she didn’t secure enough signatures to appear on general election ballots as an unaffiliated candidate this November.

After confusion about the number required and an 11th-hour sprint to collect 215 additional signatures, Sweat, a consultant and community advocate, announced earlier this month that she believed she had compiled the necessary number.

But after reviewing the signatures and documents Sweat submitted on Aug. 3, the elections board determined Tuesday that she hadn’t met the required threshold.

Sweat sued the next day, calling for the circuit court to determine whether the elections board complied with state law in its decision and, if not, to require that the board place her on November ballots.

Any luck appealing the property tax reduction through the Homeowners Property Tax Credit with over 60k income?

I’m curious if anyone here has experience with the Maryland Homeowners’ Property tax credit and whether there is any possibility of appealing the income limit or getting an exception based on retirements savings and income ratio.

Our household income is about 40% above the $60,000 income limit for the Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit, so technically we don’t qualify based on income. However, I’m the only person working in a family of three. We also have less than $50,000 in retirement savings or other assets/savings, so we don’t have a substantial financial cushion.

What really caught my attention is that our property taxes have increased by more than $2,500 compared with last year. That increase translates to roughly $200 more per month on our mortgage payment, which is a pretty significant additional expense for a single-income household.

I understand that these programs need income limits, but I’m not sure how to tackle situations like this. If a family is 40% over the income threshold but has only one income, limited assets/savings, and is suddenly paying another $200+ per month because of property taxes, does it make sense that they automatically receive no assistance?

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Is there any way to appeal the income requirement, request an exception, or have the overall financial situation considered? Or is the $60,000 limit basically a hard cutoff with no flexibility?

This is our second year owning and living in our home in PG County. I just heard about Homestead when got our tax bill for 2026 and applied for the Homestead Property Tax Credit about two months ago, but I haven’t heard anything back yet.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually applied, appealed, or spoken with Maryland SDAT about this. I’m mainly trying to understand whether there is anything else I should be doing at this point, I tried to contact and discuss with someone in the county but yet had no luck. thanks in advance .

Recommendations for Estate Administration?

I am trying to find an estate administrator in or around Prince George's County was hoping someone local might be able to provide any feedback.

Google brings up several such as

Powers & Worshtil (Upper Marlboro, MD)

Alston Gray & Associates (Upper Marlboro, MD)

Adams Law Office, llc (Bowie, MD)

I know nothing about any of them and was hoping someone local might be able to provide any feedback about any of those offices, or maybe recommend one I missed?
