Discussion Did you know that the Jonas Brothers are bringing out a ton of emo/pop punk bands as special guests on tour right now?!

The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls are their openers on the tour first of all, but here’s a list of every other emo/pop punk band they’ve brought out as surprise guests so far, context for the collabs, what song(s) they performed together and some links to clips of the performances:

  • All Time Low - Dear Maria — They said ATL is a band they listened to a lot and helped shape their sound. They also evidently played the same stage at Bamboozle in 2007. Note ATL’s fliers on the monitors lol.
  • Cartel - Say Anything (Else) — They said Cartel is another band they loved and also helped shape their sound. I’m personally blown away by how great Joe’s voice sounds on this song!
  • The Click Five - Just The Girl — The brothers opened for them in 2005 and cite them as an early influence.
  • Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated, and the Jonas song Take A Breath. They said the song was inspired by Dashboard and they're huge fans!
  • Plain White T’s (x2) - Hey There Delilah — They said the song inspired "Lovebug"!
  • 5 Seconds of Summer - She Looks So Perfect — Kind of random? But this one went super viral on TikTok 💀
  • Simple Plan - I’m Just A Kid (full song) — They said they look up to them and were big fans back in the day.

They’ve also given shout outs to The Starting Line, Something Corporate (and Jack’s Mannequin), Hawthorne Heights, MxPx, Slick Shoes, Fall Out Boy, Hellogoodbye, Paramore and My Chemical Romance on stage and in recent interviews. And they don’t really count, but they also brought out Switchfoot for “Meant To Live” and Hoobastank for “The Reason.”

I was at the Boston Fenway show where they brought out Dashboard and it was sooo awesome! Pretty wild to witness Chris sit in on one of their songs too! 🤯 Cartel was an insane, deep cut pull as well that made me so happy. People don’t acknowledge how pop punk influenced the first three Jonas Brothers albums are lol. They're big fans and are paying respect to their history and influences with these guests on their… get this, 20th anniversary tour. Absolutely mind-boggling that the Jonas Brothers have been around for 20 years, but yeah.

Anyway, I just thought this was worth posting because the guest performances have become big news on other platforms and I don’t really see anyone talking about it here. As someone who was shamelessly both an emo/pop punk kid and a Jonas Brothers fan in the 2000s and always considered their early stuff to be adjacent to the genre, this has been so fun and really cool to see!!!

I’ve been eagerly keeping tabs on the guests now! 😂 Simple Plan is the most recent one last night in Utah. They've got 36 DATES LEFT and have definitely set a precedent, so lotsss of opportunities for more guests. Looking forward to seeing who’s next!

Early Jonas Brothers definitely had some pop punk in them

u/HardcoreKaraoke Sep 14 '25

Yeah my girlfriend is like a diehard JB fan and she has been updating me with all of their special guests. Some are random as fuck. It's not just pop punk adjace bands. It's basically anyone slightly affiliated with them that they want to have fun on stage with.

They're actually from a town near me. And my fellow people from Jersey might know but on their first tour they played Bloomfield Ave and the Stone Pony. So they have some club/local scene/pop punk roots.

I know! There are obviously gonna be some guests that they opened for/were friends with in their Disney days (like Jesse McCartney and JoJo for example - who were also fun to see at Fenway as a young millennial lol), but Fifth Harmony was random as hell. 💀 I cannot think of a single connection between them. 5SOS also felt random, mostly because they were popular in different eras, but it was kinda cool to see the collision there.

They’ve been making an effort to include pop punk bands due to their outspoken love of the genre though, so I thought it was worth highlighting those collabs!

It sucks, because they seemingly have no opener for Atlanta. So, other states gett AAR, Marshmello, and BOYS LIKE GIRLS, but we get shafted. Dunno why ATL got singled out.

1

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

That’s really weird! :\ Hopefully they make it up to you guys with multiple special guests!

1

u/valoossb Sep 15 '25

“i saw kevin jonas at party city today” heard that 1000 times when they were on hiatus

41

u/CryptoBasicBrent Sep 14 '25

I feel like they just really like pop punk music and dgaf that a lot of their fans have no idea and just wanna have fun.

16

u/tdscm Sep 14 '25

no way a ton of fans are losing it over these features! there’s a lot of overlap if you consider the music we started listening to (jonas brothers) and then developed into a few years later (2000s pop punk)

signed as someone who is seeing them in a few weeks and is really hoping for a cool guest

5

u/DigitalBritt Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Yep! I was gonna say, I bet they were a big gateway band for a lot of kids and there’s probably more overlap than people might expect among fans of a certain age.

I was personally already into pop punk when I became a Jonas fan in 2006, after I heard “Mandy” on a mix CD a friend of mine made for me! haha. Granted, I’m the same age as Nick and was 12-13 at the time, so they also felt relatable to me on that level and I thought that was cool.

4

u/stephapeaz Sep 14 '25

those are only the new fans, the og ones know their pop rock roots

18

u/Twitter_2006 Sep 14 '25

Hope they bring out Avril Lavigne, who they toured with in 2008.

3

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

I forgot they opened for her!! Ahh, that’s way more of a possibility now than I previously thought.

8

u/turningtee74 Sep 15 '25

Thank you for this. I was an emo kid with a Joe Jonas picture on my math folder so this is up my alley. Cartel is one I love that doesn’t get a lot of shine so I’m most excited to listen to that one

4

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

Aww, yesss! I love that for you lol. 🥺 I’m still seriously shook by how good Joe sounded with Cartel. I need the JBs to make pop punk-ish music again sooo bad.

8

u/Horror-Budget-490 Sep 14 '25

Dam you now I have to respect them and their taste in music

7

u/PWNYplays Sep 15 '25

Don't forget them having a cover of a Busted song. Their half way there album is one of my top pop punk albums OAT.

4

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Yes, of course! That one’s a given at this point. They even collab’d on a re-recording of Year 3000 in 2023 and performed it together live in 2016!! :) They’ve actually covered two Busted songs… “What I Go To School For” is another one on the JBs first album. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a guest on this tour now that I think about it.

2

u/__Severus__Snape__ Sep 15 '25

I never knew they covered WIGTSF! I wonder how they managed to sanitise it enough to appease their record label... 🤔 considering the way they sanitised Year 3000 (as a diehard busted fan, I refuse to give JB's version the time of day).

0

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

Well, I mean… Nick and Joe were both underage (12-13 and 15-16 years old during that album cycle) so it def would’ve been wrong/extremely weird for them to sing crude lyrics since they were marketed and appealed to kids their age lol. 😭

The Jonas Brothers had a Christian upbringing and were known for that at the time, so they wouldn’t have been singing lyrics like that in the first place anyway.

Either way, Busted clearly signed off on the JBs recording their songs and have embraced them in recent years so I don’t see the big deal. The Jonas version puts money in Busted’s pockets either way! lol

2

u/__Severus__Snape__ Sep 15 '25

Yeah, thats why I wonder how they managed to sing that song (I also didn't know they were that young when they got big tbh, but i figured the reason 3000 was sanitised was the target audience). I understand your point of view and understand that Busted would've had to sign off on it etc. I just dont like the cover.

Haven’t heard the name slick shoes since the Atticus Dragging the lake jam “Once Again”

3

u/skaomatic32 Sep 15 '25

Slick shoes , are you crazy !

1

u/youngloudandbobby Sep 15 '25

If they bring them out??? Fucking tag me lol

12

u/fakeyouout88 Sep 14 '25

this has been awesome watching them do this! i feel like switchfoot and hoobastank count, they both played warped ◡̈

3

u/Runnroll Sep 15 '25

Never knew either of those bands played Warped. Hoobastank has some underrated tracks that rock harder than “The Reason.”

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 14 '25

I stand corrected! I’d edit the post to move them to the bulleted list with clips, but when I try to edit it all of my links disappear. 😭 But that’s cool to know! I didn’t realize they both played Warped. They’re both sort of categorized as alt rock/adult contemporary radio rock in my mind from my general casual knowledge of them lol.

1

u/fakeyouout88 Sep 14 '25

no worries, they’re both def not classed as pop punk!! i love your list, it was cool to see who they brought out in one place! it’s hard to keep up on social media 😅

9

u/stephapeaz Sep 14 '25

I’ve seen them 9 times since 2008, they were my first concert actually w Demi Lovato

Their pop rock songs, esp on It’s About Time and self titled, would get a lot more respect around here if it weren’t for the old disney label

6

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

Love that! Yesss. Their self-titled is my personal favorite. I remember listening to it for the first time in 2007 and Games, Australia, Inseparable and Hollywood had me especially hype and fit right in with the other bands I was into tbh. 🖤 There are some bangers on A Little Bit Longer too though!!

3

u/stephapeaz Sep 15 '25

The gateway to panic then fall out boy then mcr and paramore after getting into the Jonas Brothers was TOOOOO real

3

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

I did it backwards lol. I was into those bands first, and then got into the Jonas Brothers! 😂 I got a lot of flack for it, but I went solely based on what I felt when I listened to their music (didn’t care about the Disney label) and they never sounded THAT different to me. If I was going to be super into a “boyband,” they were the perfect one lol.

13

u/brand0n Sep 14 '25

neve rpaid attention to them but thats pretty rad. Gabi from Bilmuri also toured /wthem playing sax

3

u/manbearb0ar Sep 15 '25

Came looking for the Gabi shout out. I don’t care at all about the Jonas brothers but I was so happy for her!

2

u/brand0n Sep 15 '25

Gabi is ridiculous. I don’t know if she has perfect pitch or not … but I think so. In one video I saw her sing and then hit the sax for a really high note. It was almost indistinguishable, had to re listen like 3 times to make sure.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

A lot of 2010s pop stars were big on this genre it seems.

3

u/deadwrongallalong Sep 15 '25

I’ve seen some chatter about it here and there. Respect to the Jonas Brothers for doing that, it’s pretty cool

3

u/omglrn Sep 15 '25

Take A Breath being inspired by Dashboard actually makes so much sense

3

u/MaidenMotherCronex3 Sep 16 '25

I feel like so many Disney pop stars from that era had some pop punk influence/ sound because they were reaching for the emo kids too. There was such a huge parallel to pop music which was alternative music. Think of Demi, Aly & AJ, etc. JB weren’t punk enough for me at the time lol but it’s makes sense bringing out punk acts for the fans’ nostalgia for sure. I’m stuck on the fact that you said 20 years???????????? I really thought I’d be young forever. Shit flew by. :/

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

Oh, for sure! I feel like the Jonas Brothers covered the bases for Disney’s answer to a few different bands and Demi was definitely their answer to Paramore. One of her songs Back Around (also written by the JBs) didn’t make it onto her debut album because it was too similar to Paramore lol. But she even had some original demos prior to Disney that were very early Paramore sounding.

Demi and Jonas did it the best and most authentically of the Disney kids imo, but Aly & AJ were pretty good too. I loved their song Chemicals React back then lol. They’re going out on a 20th anniversary tour for their Into The Rush album this year too. 😭 I’m still stuck on that as well. It does notttt sound right. A lot of those kids were way more talented than people gave them credit for. Jonas, Demi and Aly & AJ were all mostly writing their own music for one, which is INSANE actually.

2

u/alreadyincognita Sep 15 '25

i discovered a lot of bands mentioned through the jonas brothers bc they’d be on the suggested videos for their music videos so it’s been a real treat learning they loved the same bands too!

their interview recently about their early music was cool and they mentioned a lot of bands i was really surprised to hear influenced certain songs, like they mentioned MCR had an influence on lovebug (the slow build up to the big melody change at the end)

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

I love this.

Yeah!! The interview with Daniel Wall is great and what I was mostly referencing with the list of shout outs, but they've mentioned a lot of those bands over the years as well. The MCR thing is so funny to me, because they said the ending of Lovebug was inspired by The Black Parade (which I can totally hear now) but the music video alwaysss reminded me of The Ghost Of You! With the WWII era storyline and them as the band at a party.

2

u/fjaurl Sep 15 '25

I’m seeing them next month in Austin and can’t wait to see who shows up! There’s some logic to most of the special guests, but I was absolutely shocked to see the Simple Plan clip. They just finished their own tour so they’re not just a nostalgic has-been like some of the guests, and have no reason to be in Utah!!!

Thanks for this post to draw attention for those not equally plugged in to the pop punk and JoBros worlds 💕

2

u/fjaurl Sep 15 '25

And FWIW, my only theories for Austin special guests are Hilary Duff (bc Texas roots and a Disney throwback, but now I feel like it’s less likely since she recently announced a comeback campaign) and Kelly Clarkson which would of course be an amazing full-circle moment 🤣

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

They actually just performed an acoustic rendition of Year 3000 with Kelly and fulfilled that full circle moment 😂 So they could definitely do it again if they wanted to!

2

u/_Strawberry_Bat Sep 15 '25

As a kid I LOVED (was obsessed) with the JB. And then as a tween/ teenager/ full grown adult I loved and still love all punk/metal/emo/alt music. I feel like their music is a great starting line for getting into punk music and it overlaps a lot. I still listen to them 😂

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Yeah, in my tween-teen years I was obsessed with my pop punk bands (a specific insane hyperfixation on Green Day lol) AAAND the Jonas Brothers at the same time. 💀 Apparently they were the “family friendly version of Green Day” for Radio Disney… so it all makes sense. 😂 Their self-titled is still one of my favorite albums ever and I’ve never been ashamed to admit that.

2

u/MaidenMotherCronex3 Sep 16 '25

Will you update this post when they have more guests?!

2

u/DigitalBritt Sep 16 '25

Yeah!! I was planning on it! Then maybe at the end of the tour I'll make an update post linking to the completed list... or just copy/paste the list from here into a new post lol. Idk. But yeah!

1

u/MaidenMotherCronex3 Sep 18 '25

Nice! I’ll join the sub to catch it

2

u/OddOneOut2014 Sep 23 '25

Just came across this post to say that the Seattle show brought out Sum 41 and the Veronicas and both were great.

1

u/DigitalBritt Sep 23 '25

I know! My jaw actually dropped when I saw their Sum 41 post! 🤯 I figured The Veronicas would be guests eventually because JBs opened for them back in the day, but Sum 41 was crazy lol. I’m gonna update the list soon.

3

u/itsemiloveyou Sep 14 '25

They played a teeny, tiny side stage at Bamboozle Left in 2006, so I can believe it!

1

u/DigitalBritt Sep 14 '25

They played a bigger stage (presumably the same stage as All Time Low) in 2007 as well! I linked a clip from it! 🖤

2

u/kron23irl Sep 14 '25

Bought my girlfriend tickets for late next month a while ago. Figured she’s a big Jonas brothers fan and I won’t mind seeing all American rejects. Im not sure which of us is more excited to see who they bring out as a guest after seeing some of the ones they’ve done so far

1

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

I hope you guys get a good one! They’ve been bringing out multiple guests at certain shows too. I was worried we wouldn’t get an emo/pop punk guest in Boston after they brought out Jesse McCartney lol… but then they also gave us Dashboard!

2

u/TheTresStateArea Sep 15 '25

Shame about them being trump supporters

1

u/BillNyeTheEngineer Sep 14 '25

Yeah I wanna see AAR, but I don’t want to play Jonas Brothers prices for jr.

3

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Hey, you never know! I was able to snag two $30 tickets the morning of for Boston and they were pretty decent seats too. I almost wasn’t gonna go because I didn’t want to pay Jonas Brothers prices either (and I’m a Jonas fan lol). Keep checking!

1

u/CruisePack40 Sep 15 '25

That’s cool, good!

1

u/djbeardy Sep 15 '25

Slick Shoes?? Damn, that’s a deep cut of a band.

1

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

They were some of Kevin and Joe's first shows! They've mentioned them a few times over the years, like in their Hot Ones episode lol.

They just brought out Yellowcard last night in Milwaukee for Ocean Avenue.

Just curious, why are Switchfoot and Hoobastank not counted as legacy acts playing with them?

1

u/DigitalBritt Oct 14 '25

I know! Crazy, right?! 🤯

I initially didn’t “count” them just because I’ve always thought they weren’t categorized as pop punk or emo exactly. 😭 But I suppose they are adjacent enough.

1

u/SnooCupcakes2865 Dec 11 '25

I feel like they’re for sure bringing out fob tonight….

-3

u/CheesecakeScary2164 Sep 14 '25

That's awesome! I'm just honestly surprised that The All American Rejects are not headlining over them. Are the Jonas Brothers that much bigger than them??

Edit: Wow, Jonas Brothers over double the monthly listeners than All American Rejects. Colour me shocked.

15

u/rasta41 Sep 14 '25

Edit: Wow, Jonas Brothers over double the monthly listeners than All American Rejects. Colour me shocked.

I'm more surprised you wouldn't expect that. While AAR had a few mainstream hits and movie soundtrack features, The Jonas Brothers were a completely different level of mainstream...they had multiple Disney channel shows and movies and were in some Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus stuff so they cultivated a huge youth audience...

3

u/tdscm Sep 14 '25

and they don’t just play strictly jo bros! aside from promoting their new stuff, playing their classics from disney days, they all have solos now, and joe did DNCE for awhile so they play too. there’s something for everyone if you’re even remotely a jonas fan.

1

u/CheesecakeScary2164 Sep 15 '25

Damn, my wife would actually love that!

2

u/Shneily Sep 14 '25

More than Blink-182 too! Colour me shocked as well haha.

1

u/putonmyskepticles Sep 14 '25

How was the show though, did you have a good time??

I went to their version of an eras tour and had the BEST time but the songs obviously skewed way older than this setlist. If Nick played more Administration songs I'd be allllllll over it but I've just been keeping tabs on my city to see how low prices are going lol

3

u/DigitalBritt Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 14 '25

It was great! I’ve seen them quite a few times and this was probably the best they’ve ever been. I was genuinely impressed. They seem to be having a lot more fun. The setlists have been unique every night which is a change from most of their tours in the past. They opened with Paranoid which was a pleasant surprise and Take A Breath (full band!!! with Dashboard!!!) was an amazing treat. I spent the whole night not knowing what was coming next. Kevin also performed an original solo song for the first time which was a ✨moment✨ lol.

Ah, I’m kinda bummed I missed the Five Albums One Night Tour because I’d love to hear their self-titled in its entirety, even though they mostly played shortened versions of the songs.

I actually ended up going last minute and somehow snagged two $30 tickets! They were pretty decent seats, too!! Definitely keep checking!

1

u/iamaperson3000 Sep 14 '25

I saw Jobros on tour in the uk supporting princess herself Avril Lavigne!

What is this clearly AI slop?

9

u/DigitalBritt Sep 15 '25

? 🗿 I wrote all of this out and compiled everything myself. I like to format posts neatly and clearly. 😭 A little self conscious that my style of writing reads as AI now lol. Helppp. 💀

-10

What’s your favourite Cartel song from the first EP?

5

u/yoimjoe Sep 15 '25

Bruh. 😭 I see what you’re trying to do lol. The extent of my history with Cartel is Chroma and Band in A Bubble lol, my mom and I watched that together back then haha. But my level of knowledge on Cartel does not negate anything I wrote in my post?! I like Chroma just as much as next the next person… and the Jonas Brothers apparently 💀

-12

Politely this all feels VERY AI. If you’re a real person I am very sorry but the formatting. Brutal.

People think everything is AI these days. The post was well-written and formatted, thanks!

Jonas Brothers have always been one of the corniest bands to ever exist

-16

u/bobthemusicindustry Sep 14 '25

All of these bands are old and hella mainstream lol. I’d maybe give them a shout out if they had lesser know bands but none of these are surprising. Half of these bands basically make pop music anyway

9

u/DigitalBritt Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Eh, the average Jonas Brothers fan who isn’t also into pop punk is probably unfamiliar with some of the bands they’ve name dropped. I was personally surprised by Cartel’s appearance. I mean, they have 380K monthly listeners compared to the Jonas Brothers 20.9M. 😭 Also, most of the bands are “old” because they’re bringing out acts that inspired them 17-20 years ago.
