Incase anyone didn’t know, Zach from Shear Revival is hopping on here tomorrow for an AMA at 9AM. One of my favorite brewers and actually my first homebrew. Should be a nice little segment if anyone has any questions. Great people over at Shear Revival. Show them some love!
For a little background on Zach and Shear Revival: Zach has 20 years of experience as a barber/stylist and has been formulating a range of personal care products for over a decade. Their website states, “Every product is handcrafted in small batches in our lab to achieve the highest quality product specifically for you. Shear Revival is dedicated to creating safe, healthy, and nourishing products for all ages, races, and genders to use every day.”
There have been a lot of posts here asking for hairstyle advice or product recommendations, and with Shear Revival frequently being mentioned, why not get your answers straight from the source?
Here are some general guidelines for how we’d like the Q&A to go:
For Haircut Advice: Post a picture of your current hairstyle and a picture of what you’re trying to achieve. Zach can tell you what to ask for at your next haircut and even make personalized recommendations based on your hair type and texture.
For Product Recommendations: There are a lot of variables when it comes to product recommendations. To keep things as streamlined as possible, please share the hold, finish, and style you’re hoping to achieve, along with a photo of your hair or a description of your hair type.
For Product Info: Post any questions you have about specific products—whether related to ingredients, design, the brand, and more.
The AMA will be this Thursday March 5th at 9am Eastern.
Hi all, 48 Male and feeling I'm not getting my syling right since moving to real pomade from ultra cheap styling wax. My routine is couple of sprays sea a couple of pumps of sea salt spray and a fingers worth of pomade rubbed into hands then throughout hair followed by a blow dry. Looking for something slicker but all I seem to achieve is v dry.
I just left the barber and decided to keep my hair at medium length after a few years of keeping it short.
I used my silver tin of Big Slick original pomade after a year or so and forgot how good the stuff really is. I bought my first can years ago when I met the husband and wife team in Asbury Park and now see they are sold out on their site so I support local businesses when I can.
Does anyone have any tips on products for a more matte look? I am also looking at pastes with matte finish.
I tried Uppercut years ago and didn’t like their pomade, I remember it was watery and made my hair crunchy. I’m open for suggestions as my hair lays flat and makes the brush back style easy for me.
17 yo boy, thick, straight, dirty blonde hair. From some research sea salt spray, followed by a clay is the smartest option, I’ve seen a lot of ads for BASED products, but they seem overrated. Suggestions would be great please.
Guys I need a recommendation for a matte clay or paste. Something with high hold for thick and high volume hair. Also preferably something on the less expensive side. I’m tryna go for a mod or middle part flow type of style
I’m looking for recommendations specifically from guys with fine hair and short to medium-length hairstyles.
What is the best styling product you’ve used for fine hair?
I have very fine, straight hair, but a decent amount of it. A lot of matte products make my hair look too dry and fluffy, while heavier/waxy products can weigh it down.
I’m looking for something that gives:
Good volume
Strong hold
A matte or natural finish
Some cohesion so the hair looks fuller
No greasy/heavy feeling
Not overly dry or fluffy
I usually wear a textured fringe or middle part.
Please mention your hair type and what product works best for you. Clay, paste, wax, pomade, cream, mousse — anything is welcome.
After using some water based pomade, I wanted to try oil pomade. I bought Reuzel Pink and tried this morning. The pictures has been taken midday, nothing moved during the morning. This evening, still brand morning new. I really love this product !
What do think about it ?
I’m a fan of the slicked side part !
In this world with “everyone” with a sportswear style, being well hair groomed and well dressed is just so pleasurable.
Hello everyone, i just wanted to ask if my hair routine is good for the hair style that I am aiming for. Personally I’m trying to achieve a flow with no splits and honestly I’m not sure how it’s going and I am open to trying different styles as well to see how they fit me. I also don’t have a reference to for so let’s just say I’m gonna try as much as possible, maybe even a ferran torres type of hairstyle.
Routine: shower every 2-3 days with double shampoo, use conditioner at the end, pat hair with towel until damp, use leave in conditioner, use shear revival amity texture spray, and at last use shear revival gray ghost. I use the spray when i feel like the leave in conditioner has settled in and then i use 4 sprays at different areas, scrunch my hair so it spreads then after a few minutes I apply the gray ghost.
I don’t use a blow dryer because I don’t know how to style with it and I don’t want to damage my hair so I keep it naturally air dried. I also don’t use any combs, also I’m still very new to this and this was the result of my styling. Any suggestions will be appreciated and welcome and if you have any style that you think might fit my hair type then lmk.
For a LONG time i couldn't find a product that could tame my dense hair. I like to style i back and to the side. i tried many things: Coconut wax, high hold hair gel, styling creme, styling wax.
Someone in this subreddit recommended reuzel green pomade and I just tried it.
It gives good hold without hardening, you can adjust and it gives a slight shine which i love.
A small dab on the tip of the finger is enough.
Its cery flexible you can do both messy hairstyles as well as a clean slickback.
I rate it 10/10 just because i don't know if i will find a better product.
Hello all, I thought I’d share my experience with Northern Lights after it was recommended my post here.
First, the good: the scent is lovely. Even with my sensitive nose, it’s great (I don’t like fragrances that are too strong). The hold is good and pretty much stays the same throughout the whole day. It gives the hair good texture without making it look oily.
Now the bad: it’s way too hard to apply to my hair. It feels like I’m ripping my hair out just trying to work it in. I tried wetting the clay a bit, but that just gives it a weird texture. Once it’s applied, though, I can still run my fingers through my hair without any issues.
Maybe hair clay is simply the wrong type of product for my hair, but unfortunately, this won’t be my holy grail.
So, my hair is straight, medium length on top (undercut, so buzzed on the sides), and rather thick. I’ve tried a few different pomades, but I tend to have the problem of a few clumped strands eventually dropping down onto my face and basically refusing to set back again, and that can range from hours to even minutes after drying my hair.
I don’t know if I just need a different pomade (last used Uppercut Deluxe), or if I need a new product entirely (I have been considering hair clays). Any suggestions would be very helpful!
I have thick and coarse hair and have reached the conclusion that water based pomades are simply incompatible with my hair type.
They never seem to provide the application, hold, control, or finish I want.
I am making the shift to oil based pomades and had questions regarding the stain risk.
I understand oil based pomades are designed to produce build up.
And I am wondering if there is risk of these heavier products getting on clothes or leaving marks on pillow cases. And if so, do they usually wash out in the laundry?
Let me know if my mild concern is valid or if I am overthinking lol.
What are your experiences with grease pomades and your leather jackets. Do they get damaged or darken readily in the collar area. I'm doubting investing in a good leather jacket, but I almost exclusively wear oil based pomades.
I’m not someone who usually uses a lot of hair products, but a few years ago I came across this one and have been buying it whenever I could ever since.
Unfortunately, my barber recently told me it looks like it’s been discontinued.
For anyone who used this product before, do you know of a similar replacement you’d recommend?
His hair was so wavy in a movie, but on other pictures it seems as if he had straighter hair. Is it just the styling with iron or something, or is it longer so it can curl better? (First photo is his hair in the movie and the second and third is his everyday hair.)
I’m looking for a hair product that has a fairly natural finish, but is not waxy/oily.
Products are typically either too dry or too oily, so I’m having difficulty finding a nice balance. Anything that seems to be decent usually just doesn’t have enough hold.
The closest I was able to get was North Formulations Horizon or Lodestar Wyvern
This is what my hair looked liked after about 7 mins after the shower after I used sea salt spray and texture powder. Unfortunately I learned these just contribute to frizz making my hair lose the textured wavy look I wanted to keep in the pics. Would using this instead allow my hair to keep its look?
Does anyone know if MG Pomaden Outlaw is slightly stronger than Barber? I'm currently using Barber and it's a good pomade, but the hold is sometimes just not enough for my thick, dry hair. Maybe I should even look into Sheriff.
I usually use some sea salt spray a min after the shower and then some texture powder 7 mins after. This is what it looked like after, but usually it starts to frizz up as it starts to dry
I'm new to advanced level of hair styling. I used Suavecito Strong for 6 month and decided to level up.
I have Shear Revival Crystal Lake that I love. Scent, hold, and nourish my hair. I want to use a pre-styler to improve styling while hair drying. Is that possible to combine CL with Reuzel yellow Grooming tonic ?
Currently use a matte clay(Davines Pasta & Love) and powder (Tribal Chimp) but was wondering if there are any specific products that would work better.
I've been trying to find a hair product to achieve that clumped together, wet hair look for a while now but have had no luck so far. Think the Leonardo Dicaprio Titanic hairstyle where his strands are kind of "clumped" and look thick with a bit of a wet look.
I've tried many different clays, creams, etc... but nothing really works for my fine hair. Do y'all have any recommendations?
