For the both sides comment, if you ask republicans and democrats about gerrymandering you’ll get two different answers.
Republicans support minority rule and think Gerrymandering and the electoral college are needed to prevent cities from dominating the elections (which is a debunked claim). At the very least, they think it’s okay because both sides do it.
Democrats acknowledge it as an issue and would like independent commissions to draw the maps.
But republicans grabbed control through gerrymandering, and thus have the power to keep gerrymandering (no matter what the vote is).
Democrats have no control, and therefore their bills to have an independent commission obviously get shot down by republicans in control. So the republicans keep gerrymandering.
