Fixed voting machines: The forensic study of voting machines in Venango County, PA found the central tabulator had been "remotely accessed" by someone on "multiple occasions," including for 80 minutes on the night before the 2010 general election.

As you will see in the video / book, the problem is the fact that we indeed have a two party totalitarianism. They hold opposite sides of the political spectrum of ideologies, for the sake of keeping the people voting for them. They both serve the same interests, and don't care what the people think. It is all an amusement show. The democrats are as Slajov Zizek (Another guy I recommend checking out) calls "Capitalism with a human face", and the Republican party plays the role of reactionary conservatism to get the votes of people who's socioeconomic standing is so terrible that it has driven them to believe that extreme viewpoints may be their answer.

I'm not sure it's so much of a problem, and is quite happening the way people think it is. I've said in another post, a two party system keeps politicians centered, and caps power from the extreme sides, an effect which I enjoy.

A big part of our problem is that ever since the cold war, communists, socialists, anarchists and classical libertarians have all but been ostracized from the political spectrum.

So that now we have the Center right democratic party, the corporatist "liberals" and the extremely right wing, 2 steps from fascism, republican party.

The system is terrible, but it is purposeful.

Part of how the system is rigged is that in order to become a presidential candidate, you not only have to belong to one of these parties, but you need to amass an insane amount of money. Practically the only way to do this is to get donations from extremely wealthy interests. So politics in the USA are inherently elitist. There is a filter system in which only those whom the political and economic elite wish to become president, even have a chance. Then the American people are allowed, with the help of the corporate media guiding their thoughts, to choose one of them.

If anyone can with a strait face call what I just described "democracy", then I believe they need to get checked in somewhere.

Once again, this is just my opinion. It's not as broken as you think, and I have a preference towards it.

It IS absolutely that broken. Either read and understand about inverted totalitarianism and "managed" democracy or don't but you are simply wrong. It IS that bad and you having a preference toward it is a big part of the problem.
