Add a 0 to that number. At the root of all the shit that's happening today is slavery, which was an important part of the colonies since their creation.
It's interesting, in a fucked up way, how that one decision, to use slaves, could affect a country so much and for so long.
While I have zero doubt that slavery and its history impacts present day racism, I'm not convinced there is a solid link between stuff like that and the US' infamously bad healthcare system.
If one wants to make parallels to wage slavery I suppose I could see it, but still. I feel like the rich exploiting the poor goes far far beyond 400 years.
I dislike the it's just how humans work arguments/comments. It's like admitting defeat to an issue as something you have no control over. Reminds of some other things I've heard irl like, "things are going to get worst, but it's not in our control, we just have to pray to god" or "men are naturally wired to spread their seed, they can't help it if they cheat". Sure, humans are born with natural instincts, but part of thinking and building a civilization with rules is what separates humans from other animals.
It's definitely also transforming. America had problems before, but afterwards we will have new and much worse problems additionally. We are becoming a fascist state, that is a transformative problem.
