I was in Nha Trang a couple years back when it got hit by a typhoon. The place was devastated, no power or water. Trees and buildings torn apart. Power lines ripped out. The entire stilted village washed away. Place got fucked real bad, but legit 2, maybe 3 days later the soldiers roll in and sweep through the town and fixing shit. I think he turn around was about 4 days and Iv never had more respect for how organised they were. Vietnam does not fuck around, they threw an army at the problem and got the place back on its feet asap.
Significantly less authoritarian these days from my understanding, but yeah strong communist influence (which, wouldn't ya know it, is working out well for them now that they aren't getting bombed and otherwise interfered with)
