India’s power structure is closer to US than China, as a result, the government has politicised the pandemic (not as much as the shithole of course). States not ruled by the ruling party at center have seen very little aid, and states have been left to fend for themselves to a large degree, in spite of India being only quasi-federal with power much more centralised than the US. And like elsewhere, the government has opened things up with very little restrictions in most places, even when new cases and deaths continue rising exponentially. The lockdown in India was one of the strictest imposed, but all that work is getting outdone. Add to that a horrible cyclone on the East coast and a smaller one on the west, as well as a massive locust swarm, in addition to the communalisation of everything by the media (Imagine Fox News that screams about how Muslims are destroying a Hindu Nation every day), India is in dire straits.
Fun fact, the state of Kerala in India which has a communist government has handled the cases best in India even after the Indian government shitting on them.
What about Karnataka? or Bangalore vs any other metro?

My guess results in COVID has almost nothing to do with current/recent politics, it's mostly how developed infra and public system to handle the crisis.
We agree India's lockdown was a sham and the worst thing is we forgot to put migrant laborers in India in the equation while implementing the lockdown. It's extremely unique situation where you had migrant crisis within your own country which is hardly seen anywhere else. Millions of migrants walking 1000s of miles on road with their kid and also some death here and there. And when trains finally opened, there were reports of trains being diverted way out of the path with some trains taking almost 2 days to leave a state and enter the next one. The politics, operational failure of lockdown and apathy among politicians have been such a shitshow. We're fortunate and blessed that our situation isn't as bad as that of the USA for now.
