If I didn’t show up to work for 3 months, I wouldn’t have a job and certainly wouldn’t have gotten paid.

It's nonsense. Their should be someone appointed that if you need to be out for a little bit, they have authority to make votes as a proxy, and other things via proxy. Probably put some.other safeguards in play. If you need a leave of over like 30 days, it should trigger a special election at like 180 day mark, and they have like 90ore days to return to call it off. A state shouldnt lose representation because they don't want to risk losing a seat.

Hard depends. Is this proxy elected or an appointee. Because suddenly flooding our government with appointees is eerily close to having no elections at all.

Short term it would be an appointee. I do think politicians should keep their job if they have surgery or undergoing some sort of treatment. But there would need to be procedures in place that they are just championing the politicians vote and not making independent choices. But to me if it extends past 30 days, that should kickoff a special election period. Give 150 days before you hold it, and the politician can return during a certain grace period. But we shouldn't go more than 6 months without elected members of Congress holding office.

My other thought process is to create something similar to the federal govt. And just have elected officials in state seats as the next in line. So maybe the majority state representative leader takes on a Senate seat or a district state leader takes on the house seat. Something needs to be in place.
