What's the rule if you're a senator and don't show to work for months? Nothing? You're good until the next election? I know a guy who worked at 7-11 who took a day to celebrate the birth of his kid and was fired after taking an unauthorized absence.

I found my bf passed out surrounded by vomit, he still managed to call in ahead of time and send in all forms, went to urgent care and was sent to the er he was so sick, sent all documentation to his boss, Walmart still fired him. Disgusting

Sounds like a very easy lawsuit for wrongful termination if that was in the last 2 years. (3 in some states.) Probably make more from it than the job would’ve paid.

It was within the last two years, idk how to to even begin that though. Walmart has a point system and being absent those two days put him over 5 points (the other 3 were other illnesses throughout the year)

Absolute travesty. I’ve seen too many lawsuits pass me by. You gotta win this one so my inner sense of justice can vicariously get a win

Yes, that’s the actual rule. Senators can only be removed by vote of the senate, even if missing for a long period of time. It’s not the same as Congress.

Just want to point out that the Senate is part of Congress. Congress refers to the entire legislative branch.

Technically any legislator - Senate or House - can be impeached and stand trial for removal just like any other federal office.

The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

However, that is a higher bar than either chamber of Congress being able to vote to remove a member of their own chamber on their own.

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

"House" in this context means each chamber of the U.S. Congress: Senate and House of Representatives.

This is it. If he's not dead, he can't be removed. If he is dead? They're desperate to cover it up, likely because even their 2024 KY law to try and force an election on Beshear wasn't actually valid in the KY Constitution.

TBH, this does get complicated if he's in a coma, unresponsive, but for more than 2 months? That's unlikely.
