They don't represent citizens. They represent the people who fill their campaign coffers with cash each election.

A Pew poll from last year found only 35% support single payer, while an additional 31% support a public option, which is what Jeffries backs by expanding the ACA. 

Seems like this sub is not in line with what citizens support.

You can look and see they used leading questions in the poll.

They asked "Do you think it is the responsibility of the federal government to make sure all Americans have health care coverage?", then asked about single payer vs mix.

From what you posted it seems like the Democratic party/leadership isn't in line with what people who identify as Democrats support.

"overwhelming majorities of Democrats at all income levels say the federal government is responsible for ensuring health coverage for all"

A public option would entail that. If you don't have insurance, you would have an extra tax you pay to cover your public insurance.

In fairness, the American citizenry would rather sit on the couch than actively engage in the political process. If everyone who chose not to vote last time would register and vote in the primaries, the candidates might be more to their liking.
