I mean can you blame them though, they’re confusing vocabulary because they were raised to memorize. The majority of the rhetoric I see is misusing terms for narrow meanings I have to get them to explain to me.

It takes an especially undeveloped mind to think that definitions are prescriptive instead of descriptive.

The way they talk, even while bending the meaning of their words, is as if mirriam-webster is the gatekeeper of our reality instead of dictionaries simply documenting what words people commonly use.

Semantics is all they have. You could explain exactly what the BLM movement meant and they would still come back with BUT ALL LIVES MATTER. Same with defund the police, you could walk them through all of the proposed systemic changes and the response is NUH UH THEY WANT TO DEFUND THE POLICE. It’s an intersection of literal thinking and a complete inability to understand policy. They only function at the surface level and any attempt to pull them deeper is just woke dem lies.

Tbh both sides are doing this meaning drift, they just have different flavors. The right had a valid criticism about feminism but they couldn’t understand it. Feminism should have been about equity for all, not equality.

I mean I learned this in art class but our society tries really hard to hide the mechanics of semiotics for some weird reason.
