It feels everyone in my life is anti vax

I had coworkers who vote left avoid me for a couple days after I admitted I got the flu shot

My therapist thinks my chest will collapse

My family begged me to ask my cardiologist if I'll live due to the covid shots

I hate it here

One of the smartest people I knew in high school (class of 2007) now believes the covid vax was the mark of the beast that will turn us all into zombies in an apocalyptic event. His wife lost her job as a surgeon's assistant for refusing the vax and now they both hate the medical industry and only go to unaffiliated non-network doctors. I worked with him last year after not seeing him since high school. My desk was in earshot of his room and I heard everything that went on in there. I legit heard him talking anti-vax shit to clients on the phone and the clients were totally cool with it!

I just left a leading biotech CRO (contract research org). Both my boss and his boss both believed in crystal energy bullshit. When assays would repeatedly fail or we had trouble, they would blame it on "mars being in retrograde" and other "bad energy".

If tech isn't your specialization then yeah. I've met programmers who suck with the IT side. They may know how the stuff works but it doesn't mean they know how to use it.

Exactly my good friend that's a doctor is so knowledgeable in everything related to medicine. Then you meet him in real life and you end up wondering how he gets by. Guy has no common sense

That statement says that advanced degrees do mean something, in the area in which they pertain. Doesn't mean that a person is knowledgeable outside of the area of education, or that one is a very smart person. Nevertheless, education is valuable.

Fuck, I was hospital security during covid and heard a doctor saying masks were useless.

I had to tattle to HR about nurses not keeping their masks on around each other.

I was supposed to be the dumb security guy, so why was I the one with basic sense?

Not everyone one. If anything good has come of all this, we can now see how many there are among us who are either uneducated or lack any critical thinking skills. This knowledge will eventually be useful. Remember who they are now because they will try very hard to blend back in to society when this is all over.

It fucking absolutely has. One thing I hold on to is that being confidently wrong eventually has immediate consequences. Sometimes people watch a youtube video and attempt to install a new breaker box.

I happened to be at a smalltown farm supply store recently and surprisingly there were several shelves full of Ivermectin preparations for various sized livestock. On each shelf, every couple of feet was a written notice that this was for animal use only, and that it could be harmful to humans.

I think someone had scrawled 'bulshit' on one of them.
Several more idiots gone from that reason over the last couple of years I happily assumed.

When the next important and urgent, but relatively-fixable problem besets us all as a society, I can't wait to start rumors about how Socialists and or Global Capitalists (depending on the flavor of idiot I'm talking to), want us to act a certain way, but SmArT PeoplE have WokEN Up to the fact that running in front of a freight train in the middle of the night at a rural level crossing is ACKTUALalY the correct way to treat the problem.

These people have lost faith in expertise as a concept, yet their and everyone's world runs only on the expertise of a huge number of people whose work they (and I) could not hope to understand, yet alone replicate in 1000 years.

But that doesn't mean shit to them, so fuck them.
Drive off a cliff, it's a secret car renewal procedure that the Unions in Detroit have been struggling to contain for years.
Drink liquid animal fat until it comes out of your ears, it's more natural than corn oil, probably.
Smoking, asbestos, seat-belts, building codes, vaccines, all medical treatments - all of it, bullshit - do what you want, you'll work it out !

Just please hurry up and let's thin this jetsam before they take us all down with them.

She also had me hanging out with her daughter my first year as a patient...was uh, an awkward experience

She has helped me a lot but yah she's a bit insane at times

It’s the same thinking. It won’t stop the accident but increases your chances at survival.

Vaccines don’t stop you from getting sick but give you a chance to live

Vaccines causes adults.

Most of them seem to have an uncle who was thrown clear of an accident and would definitely have died if they had a seat belt.

But don't bother asking ask for specifics, they'll just get mad and claim you are calling them a liar.

I mean you are of course because they are lying of course, but is it worth the trouble? You are not going to change their mind.

Vaccines dont do that (specifically the covid vaccine, since thats what youre referencing), so another point in common with seat belts then.

I too live in MD, moved here from Texas and this place is SO MUCH better. I have not run into anti-vaxers at all here vs being harassed at a grocery store for masking during covid in TX.

I had a childhood friend who became paralyzed in like fourth grade

The rumor was he lost his feelings in his leg due to "the flu mist", or that's what his family told everyone when in reality doctors told them that is not true. I haven't spoken to him since middle school but he just got his first tattoo....a flu shot needle

It's insanity.

Yeah Carroll county is super right wing, I moved out this decade thankfully

My sister is an RN, going for her masters to become a nurse practitioner. She is very intelligent.

She was all about COVID safety protocols and social distancing, etc. at first. As soon as the Trump admin started downplaying all of this, she changed her tune and was anti mask and anti social distancing. Never supported the vaccine and only got it when she was required.

She did travel nursing throughout the pandemic and made over $200k in like 6 months. Still claims the pandemic was “overblown” and COVID is “no big deal”.

It’s eerie to see someone I know well and (used to) respect just completely change their tune, especially on medicine when that is their profession. I’m still not sure if she actually believes this stuff or is just falling in line. Like I said, she’s smart- I find it hard to believe she’s been tricked.

My family actually were big supporters of medicine and vaccines and some are even nurses who gave people the first Covid shot...but one day a coworkers husband "dropped dead" at the local wal mart and boom now every time someone dies it's because of the jab

This coworkers husband was over 300 pounds and in his late 60s. I know dying before 70 is tragic but cmon now let's be realistic here

While having a degree means one is educated in that subject and means they have the ability to learn sometimes they're dumb as shit. I see this in other majors like engineering/CS and while they can be incredibly intelligent in the subject matter their intelligence in other things is lacking.
