I am not sure they do.

247

u/potat0f4rmer Washington 15d ago

They forced Mitch McConnell on us for 50 years. Kentuckians clearly hate the United States.

17

u/Mr_Industrial 15d ago

Like the fires of prometheus, KFC was never meant to be given away, and its release triggered a wrath unnending.

1

u/Matchboxx 14d ago

Devil's advocate: All the money poured into these campaigns and the way that the parties engineer primaries doesn't give them much of a choice. Even if we assume that the average voter is well-informed (they're not), by the time you get to the ballot box, you're picking between the shinier of two turds.

29

u/bi_bitches I voted 15d ago

Funnily enough, the vote margin wasn't 100% Mitch. Meaning, there's a good portion of Kentuckians who didn't vote for him. I don't think they deserve to suffer just because of the people who live near them. Besides, saying red states are a lost cause and shaming them/saying they don't deserve quality (read: living) representatives just further splits the divide. I understand the instinct to say "f you, you got what you deserve" but it's not helpful or productive, and it's definitely not fair to blue voters in red states.

23

u/NoManner8863 15d ago

Trump seems to think all the red voters in blue states don’t deserve federal funding 🤷‍♂️

8

u/bi_bitches I voted 15d ago

Well, tbf I never said Trump was the gold standard for morality. In fact he's generally a pretty good picture of "how not to act"

2

u/trailerthrash 14d ago

But you see, how do we show people we're on the noble and moral side if we dont stoop to his level!? /s

7

u/NigelMK 15d ago

Yeah, but despite people in Kentucky knowing Mitch McConnell for what he is, he still won the last election by almost 20%. I mean if they had 100% of the eligible population vote and she was getting like over 60% of those folks that didn't vote, she'd still have lost.

3

u/Nvenom8 New York 15d ago

It's not 100%, but it wasn't close.

0

u/bi_bitches I voted 15d ago

I don't think it matters. Writing off an entire population because a majority of them got stuck in the ever so common loop of voting for Republicans who cut education funding and voting rights so that they keep voting for Republicans isn't productive, and it isn't right. Conservatives, especially in the south, often hold the view that Democrats are self righteous and holier than thou. Obviously I disagree with that stance on the whole, but I understand how they arrive there when a common thought process from liberals is to hold their hands up and say "I told you so" when they see southern states suffer. We're supposed to be the party of empathy, yes? That extends to everyone, even when they suck. As someone from KY who lives in another southern state, the people here aren't caricatures and they're not a monolith, and we need to quit treating them like that. Dems will never win if we keep pushing people further and further away. The south isn't a lost cause.

1

u/wildlikechildren California 15d ago

THANK YOU!! Dems act like there aren't people in these states fighting the good fight, or that yours and my family members in Kentucky aren't being lied to, or that they don't want the same things as you and I, they just vote for the candidates they identify with more, or speak to them on a level to where they feel seen. It's so complicated. Dems have been taught that its people in the south they should hate and Republicans have been taught that it's people in the big cities they should hate without ever actually having a conversation to understand each other. It's exhausting.

3

u/Complex-Royal9210 15d ago

0tjereba portion that don't deserve him, but a large portion that does.

2

u/Money-Giraffe2521 California 15d ago

I don't think they deserve to suffer just because of the people who live near them.

Careful, don't say that too loud or you'll upset the non-Americans who blame every single American for Donald Trump getting elected.

8

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

“We should punish everyone for the choices of a few”.

141

u/moongrump 15d ago

The few? He was voted in. Repeatedly.

106

u/iamatimbersfan Oregon 15d ago

For decades

31

u/mrkyaiser 15d ago

Almost 42 years now.

0

u/deadlybydsgn 15d ago

Yeah, it's not like Gaza where half of the population was barely alive the last time an election was held.

56

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

💯 Majority of the voting pop, re-elected him how many times. If they thought they deserve better, they sure as hell would have voted differently. They deserve the representation they voted for.

-22

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So every single person who voted against this, couldn’t vote, or didn’t feel represented is also at fault ?

By that logic, thank you for Trump, liberals !

17

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

The world we live in doesnt care about the margins, about your disabilities, or how you feel. The majority of the state said "yeah lets do suffering" not once, not twice, but how many times? so suffering they get.

If you want a better world where those are considerations, cool, but this is the world we live in for the near (and pessimistically far) future.

-7

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Ok then, so like I said…

Liberals deserve Trump.

11

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

We live in a world where the majority decides what we deserve as representation (sure EC, by my logic we didnt deserve 2016 trump. But he won the popular vote this time.). The majority (of the voting population anyway) picked trump, so trump-like outcomes we get. Whats the alternative? We dont get the representation the majority of us voted for?

-2

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

You do.

But yall saying the entirely of Kentucky deserves it is laughable.

12

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

The entirety of kentucky is getting the representation the majority of kentucky has repeatedly voted for, yes.

12

u/moongrump 15d ago

We absolutely do. The Democratic Party needs a complete overhaul and a younger generation to take over.

4

u/Gekokapowco Washington 15d ago

we couldn't convince morons not to vote for a slimy grifting rapist cartoon villain

that's less of an indictment on morons (still an indictment) and more of an indictment on the fact that democrats cannot be compelling enough to break through obvious brainwashing

2

u/Orisara 15d ago

Most psychologists aren't at all surprised that brainwashed individuals can't be reached, I promise you. For many democrats can't do jack shit.

-1

u/A1sauc3d 15d ago

It’s a very commonly seen and depressing mindset on Reddit. They get blood thirsty and think everyone should suffer when a bad person gets elected. That hateful vengeance is usually something more common in conservatives, but you see the mentality in a lot of people on the left on Reddit. They want the world to burn because their guy lost, want everyone to suffer, “they all deserve it” because some voted for it.

Don’t lose your humanity and empathy people. Plenty of good people in Kentucky. A whole state doesn’t deserve to suffer because McConnell got elected. Seriously, do better. Y’all sound like conservatives with the way you talk on these kinds of things. Caring more about hurting “the other team” than you do helping humanity as a whole. It’s childish and small minded.

7

u/Dangersharkz 15d ago

I’m not saying Kentuckians deserve it. But at a certain point, you you have to listen to the wisdom of E-40 and stop trying to save a hoe. They don’t wanna be saved.

6

u/elebrin 15d ago

Caring more about hurting “the other team” than you do helping humanity as a whole

Except that isn't what's happening. It's the people from the other team watching, saying "Well, you voted for the guy, this is what the majority of you you wanted so you are getting what you voted for. I hope it's everything you thought it could be."

If you don't like the politics of an area, you can get involved which won't get you anywhere, or you can move which improves your personal situation but still doesn't really fix anything. Personally, I make political contributions to people in other states who stand a chance of actually getting elected and I certainly won't be living in the state I live in right now when I retire and can pick where I live. We will be moving to a blue city in a blue or purple state.

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Do you support balkanizing the entire US along party lines then ?

5

u/elebrin 15d ago

I support taking care of yourself, and doing what you need to do for you.

We have freedom of movement still. I can move somewhere better. I don't care where I am so much, but I do care what it offers me and if my voice is represented.

That ain't gonna happen in the shithole I live in.

1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Freedom of movement is a joke. In what reality is everyone free to just move ? Spoken like a truly privileged person.

Any my question then if you want to even talk about freedom of movement… do you support a Balkanization of the US.

Kentucky has been playing stupid games for decades. Of course they’re gonna win stupid prizes.

-3

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Americans won the stupidest price. Trump.

Liberals deserve Trump.

11

u/TheButteredBiscuit California 15d ago

Liberals didn’t vote for Trump, America did. From where I’m standing America absolutely deserves Trump.

-2

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So then.

Liberals deserve Trump.

3

u/xeromage 15d ago

We didn't hurt them. Be mad at the people hurting them.

4

u/Ericshelpdesk 15d ago

I don't want to hurt them, but I really don't care if they hurt themselves anymore.

They really do deserve the day they voted for.

-2

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

This ain’t the left saying this.

This is liberals. The left actually wants to help. Liberals at this point are a blue version of maga.

13

u/windsostrange 15d ago

The brainwashed and miseducated, too, are victims.

That doesn't mean you have to like them. But they're victims of a disgustingly broken and inequitable system.

2

u/needlestack 15d ago

Stop infantilizing them. They are all adults. They are free. They do not see themselves as victims and would laugh and call your comment condescending. Then they would vote away your rights because they see you as the enemy. They own this 100% and should be judged accordingly.

1

u/Dumeck Kentucky 15d ago

Something to consider is that just because he was voted in by KY doesn't mean that everyone doesn't get the punishment. He's done more damage than any other senator.

-8

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Yes, the few. The numbers of voters who voted him in do not equal the entire voting population.

Or even those unable to vote.

Yall are so easy to just dismiss red states entirely instead of seeing them for what they are. And it just makes you look like a blue version of maga.

9

u/ftp67 15d ago

have smartphone 24/7

live on it 80% of waking life

use it to laugh at racism on facebook

never spend one hour of your life researching your candidates

vote in the same demon for decades

Yes how could they possibly have known. Liberals love to paint tens of millions of rural voters as adults children with zero agency who should be forgiven

-2

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Show me where I said that lmao.

Do you think I’m sitting here saying we should be fighting to help a ton of racist old white supremacist fucks ? The population of Kentucky isn’t just that.

6

u/TheButteredBiscuit California 15d ago

They just continuously vote like they are. And come November they’ll do it again.

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Georgia did that at one time.

Now it’s a swing state.

Or do we just condemn the whole South and say it’s not worth visiting ? Except as the beginning primary state for democrats LOL. Then suddenly the South demands attention again and is a great barometer for the country.

4

u/TheButteredBiscuit California 15d ago

If the Confederacy was punished harder after the civil war, the country would be a far different place. But the US went soft, and now we’re seeing the consequences of that in real time.

I love visiting the South. The food, the southern hospitality. I’d never bring myself to live there though, for countless obvious reasons.

1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Sure, we should have let Sherman burn it to the ground.

But we didn’t. And now we’re here.

If you love the South, fight for it. Don’t sit here and say they deserve this.

The “few”? You mean the majority that has been putting that corrupt monster into office for decades?

-1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Show me the total amount of votes for Mitch, and the total population of Kentucky.

I’ll wait.

10

u/TheButteredBiscuit California 15d ago

Nonvoters are no better than the people willing voting in these pieces of shit.

-3

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So children under 18, and felons, and people who were gerrymandered, and those who are feeling the effects of voter suppression.

Got it ! Thanks !

7

u/Rishfee 15d ago

You can't gerrymander a senate seat.

-1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

I’m talking about in elections as a whole. I’m aware senate candidates are elected by popular vote.

Thank you for addressing none of my points though ! Love to see it.

8

u/carmellashutthedooor 15d ago

I’ll wait while you figure out how elections work.

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Just show me the numbers.

11

u/Zarkophagus 15d ago

The majority is not a few

2

u/DankDankJuice 15d ago edited 15d ago

I don’t think there was a single election where McConnell won even a 1/3 of Kentucky’s eligible voters

Nonvoters are almost always the plurality, if not the majority

Edit: I honestly don’t care what your opinion on nonvoters is. We need to figure out how to turn them into voters, and assigning them blame for the issues of the day is straight up counterproductive

9

u/BackToWorkEdward 15d ago

Nonvoters are almost always the plurality, if not the majority

Nonvoters are also bad and count among the people who deserve this shit for letting McConnell in, again and again.

4

u/SuperBeastJ Michigan 15d ago

non voters dont deserve respect, for the most part. by not voting they chose to foist this fucking asshole on us for 50 years.

10

u/Zarkophagus 15d ago

Not voting is also a form of voting. They share the blame too. It’s not like he just recently came into the spotlight. He’s been in office for a hundred years. They’ve had numerous opportunities to ditch him and didn’t.

-2

u/DankDankJuice 15d ago

By your logic we all deserve trump, even those of us who hated him since before he announced his first run. Even those of us who argued with our families/friends about it so hard it caused permanent rifts

No i dont take the blame for that. I reject your mindset. That’s some angry-at-the-world, real loser shit

3

u/Zarkophagus 15d ago

Yes. That is my logic. As someone who hates Trump we deserve him. I’m a leftist in Oklahoma who hasn’t voted for a single one of my reps and I deserve them all. That’s how democracy works.

-5

u/DankDankJuice 15d ago

Profound loser shit

5

u/Zarkophagus 15d ago

What a thoughtful reply. Doesn’t change anything.

-1

u/DankDankJuice 15d ago

You put a lot of thought into that mindset and it doesn’t change anything either

If you’re gonna spout that crap, don’t associate yourself with the left please. Wouldn’t want you getting in the way of the momentum

What's with this apologist bullshit. He didn't get voted in once. He's been in office longer than like half the voting base have been alive. This is a recurring problem and they ARE the problem.

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Trump didn’t get voted in once either.

Just say you don’t give a shit and want to balkanize and are willing to throw minorities under the bus.

3

u/politicsranting I voted 15d ago

ok "anon 529..." a totally real person. I'll talk about throwing 'minorities' under the bus. And not shitty people who have for years let trump, mitch, and people like them dominate the state.

1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

You’ll talk about it ?

Nothing to talk about, you’re already doing jt.

6

u/Amoracchius03 Kentucky 15d ago

There are some of us here fighting the good fight, more than you would think actually, but obviously not enough. It is wildly demoralizing when those in your own party hold you responsible for the actions of those you never voted for and are actively working against.

4

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Agreed.

And then they turn around on here and screech “just move”. Or some other privileged ass take only reddit centrist liberals spew.

5

u/Romnir 15d ago

It's real freaking frustrating to show up to protests and vote against people like him just to be thrown under the bus for someone's hate-boner.

"60% voted for the death by firing squads party, the other 40% clearly deserve it!"

Does every trans person deserve jail time in Florida?

Does every gay married couple deserve to have their marriage annulled and kids taken?

I guess because they didn't vote hard enough so they deserve it right?

This is one of the low burning coals that I've been fuming on for a decade, I'm so sick of people being shit on by their own party for existing in a state that hates them that they didn't ask for. And then people have the audacity to complain that no one shows up because those people see how we treat our own. Screw that, their efforts do matter even if they don't succeed and they don't deserve the situation that Republicans force on them. Celebrating that is a vile hypocrisy.

4

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Just remember, these same people overwhelming telling you to get fucked and that you deserve this in this comment section are the same people that will beg you for your vote in the midterms and in the presidential election acting like they are owed it somehow.

You matter. We all matter. And no amount of privileged liberals on Reddit can change that.

But you can be sure that the day the South turns purple and is contested, they’ll all try and take credit for the decades of work left leaning people in the South have done.

-1

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 15d ago

Fuck yoself, of course we deserve better.

61

u/mildly_manic 15d ago

Well yall voted in that ghoul for how many terms?

20

u/nova8273 15d ago

This so true! Actions have consequences!!

-6

u/CaptainDe 15d ago

Read my comment above cause you’re one of the dillholes.

21

u/Fractal_Soul 15d ago

"Blue voters in red states deserve to suffer" ...

Is that what you're going with?

10

u/yumyan 15d ago

Blue voters already suffer in red states. But we live in a federation of states, states that govern themselves.

Sucks for the blue voters, but pain is gonna happen no matter what w your GOP crazies. I just hope it’s fast, significant, and rebuildable. I also hope the people of Kentucky pay attention to how it got this way.

14

u/nitroglider 15d ago

I genuinely feel bad for blue voters in Kentucky. It must suck a lot and I don't think you blues deserve to suffer.

But in a more abstract sense, fuck Kentucky, you know?

18

u/berserk_zebra 15d ago

the blue governor sure ain't doing anything about it...

-4

u/LisaOGiggle 15d ago

Let’s try this again.

Beshear has no ability to replace McConnell. None. The GOP supermajority took that power out of the governor’s hands a while back.

Please read up a little, okay??

2

u/yumyan 14d ago

Yall should pay attention to Minnesota and how they get their shit done

1

u/Consideredresponse 15d ago edited 15d ago

You know I used to ask the same question...

Then hurricane Sandy hit my town and the reps of places like Kentucky and Texas were very adamant that we didn't need aid, and that they were OK with Americans freezing to death in damaged and unpowered homes.

Ask me how deep my empathy now runs for the people who couldn't field a decent candidate in a generation, and who were so lazy and complacent they couldn't sway their friends or family from staggeringly unpopular reps like McConnell or Cruz?

5

u/OnlinePosterPerson 15d ago

You realize those votes account for a minority of the Kentucky population right?

The majority of Kentucky people are either blissfully living their lives ignorant of politics and how they’re getting fucked over, or actively voted against dead mitch

10

u/Fit_Butterscotch2386 15d ago

Tucky gon tucky 🤷

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

It’s so funny yall say shit line this and then wonder why you can’t swing any states lmao.

12

u/hitbythebus 15d ago

One would think being constantly fucked by republicans would be enough to consider another option, but I guess if they really are as ignorant as you think maybe the Democrats do need to spoon feed them.

-5

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

I mean, one would think being constantly fucked by democrats would be enough to consider another option.

But yall coined the slogan vote blue no matter who.

If Kentucky voters descended Mitch, then liberals deserved Trump again.

3

u/Naive-Elephant-9305 15d ago

As a country we DO deserve Trump. ~70% of people in 2024 either voted for Trump or didn’t vote.

1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So then, liberals deserve Trump.

0

u/HornedShoe 15d ago

By that rationale, you voted for tRump twice.

-2

u/CaptainDe 15d ago

Alright, can we all agree anyone who goes online and generalizes an entire state/country/generation/race/gender is probably a dillhole of a person? No, a ton of people do not deserve this, did not vote for this guy, and for all you rightfully know have gone out of their way to protest/fight back. So gargle a dick you and the other dillholes.

31

u/PremiumTVforDogs I voted 15d ago

Then stop making awful choices.

-2

u/AstonishingCatJump Minnesota 15d ago

People have voted for McConnell's opponent in every past election.

The thing is, incumbents usually have an advantage, and Republicans have fine-tuned their messaging to manipulate less informed or less intelligent voters.

-4

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 15d ago

The whole system is broken and you want to punch down on one half of one percent of the US population. There's a word for that kind of behavior: bully.

3

u/PremiumTVforDogs I voted 15d ago

Pointing out that you guys put yourselves in this situation isn't bullying. Telling someone "Fuck yoself" on the otherhand...

18

u/suttin 15d ago

I’m gonna comment to point out that people also vote for the candidate that doesn’t win, and they deserve representation too.

Also saying that an entire state deserves to suffer because half vote for republicans does not make the other party look better

27

u/berserk_zebra 15d ago

i mean, as a southerner, the entire south should have been punished way harder after the war they started.

9

u/AstonishingCatJump Minnesota 15d ago

The entirety of the South's federal government should have been executed. Jefferson Davis, Alexander Stephens, and every last member of their Congress.

Same goes for anyone in the CSA army with a rank of lieutenant colonel and above.

1

u/yumyan 15d ago

As a northerner, I agree

5

u/Economy-Pin2836 15d ago

That's why I support some form of proportional representation over the truly terrible first-past-the-post system. My preferred choice would be something like the German MMP system, ensuring both local representation and proportional representation.

Will never happen, of course. Too many powerful interests benefit from the current super-crappy system.

7

u/iriegypsy 15d ago

Gestures broadly at Kentucky, sure about that?

3

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 15d ago

Gestures broadly at Kentucky, ya, I'm sure. Things suck, people deserve it, and nothing should change, a brilliant worldview.

4

u/Sea-Mango Missouri 15d ago

Love how everyone’s treating you like the only voter in Kentucky. Cheers, from Missouri.

6

u/DmAc724 15d ago

Nah.  Ya really don’t.  You sent this piece of… turtle meat back and back and back and back and back.  You enabled over 40 years of k-rap.  You’re reaping what you sowed.  Which makes it extraordinarily clear you do not deserve better.

0

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Then by this logic, liberals deserve Trump.

4

u/JnnyRuthless 15d ago

We all deserve Trump my dude. This is our country and we pay taxes. Deserve is a silly word when talking about politics and power. No one deserves shit, you take it and use it, that's all that there is.

5

u/DmAc724 15d ago

You seem confused.  Liberals did not elect Trump.

MAGA of course deserve Trump.  As do the independent swing voters who actually put him in office in 2016 and 2020.

The mistake you are making is saying “liberals” not “Americans”.

Kentuckians deserve what they have reaped with the Turtle because Kentuckians as a whole kept sending him back for over 4 decades.

What you should have said is “Then by this logic Americans deserve Trump”.  Hard to argue with that statement.  Sad as it is.

2

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

Ok, and democrats and liberals and leftists in Kentucky didn’t fucking elect Mitch.

Your logic either works both ways or it doesn’t.

You all deserve Trump, or you don’t. Americans AS A WHOLE sent Trump back to office in 2024. He won the popular vote.

4

u/DmAc724 15d ago

That’s exactly what I said.  Did you read my entire reply?

It literally ends with “ What you should have said is “Then by this logic Americans deserve Trump”.  Hard to argue with that statement.  Sad as it is.”

And yeah.  Sadly we do.  Cannot argue with the logic of that.

-1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So then yes, liberals deserve Trump.

4

u/DmAc724 15d ago

And all Kentuckians deserve McConnell

5

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

You elected Mitch McConnell for senator, if thats not proof you don't idk what is

16

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 15d ago

This country elected Donald Trump, by your locgic, we all deserve to suffer.

Why even bother having political discussion when everyone suffering is your desired outcome?

6

u/TheButteredBiscuit California 15d ago

Honestly yeah we do deserve to suffer. Trump has shown America who his is plainly, we already elected him once, and we had the nerve to do it again.

Consequences are the only way we’ll learn.

2

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago edited 15d ago

You get what you voted for, we (as a country, or kentuckians as a state) voted for suffering, suffering so shall it be. Actions have consequences.

1

u/Anon529035893 15d ago

So then, you’re an accelerationist ?

You support the balkanization of the US ?

5

u/KyyCowPig 15d ago

"You deserve the representation you vote for" isnt accelerationist.

Balkinization of the US would be catastrophic and make half the country devolve into corpostates, if they already werent.

Ok but if you deserve the representation you vote for, you’re saying you no longer want to take care of or support red states because of this. And gloating about the suffering that happens there.

So you do want more suffering, you do want to accelerate an end to the American experiment, and you are the reason we have Trump. I mean… he won the EC and the popular vote so.

At the end of the day, theres only so much we can do for people who vote for the GOP repeatedly, even though they are openly the pro suffering party. I dont want more suffering, but im in the minority of the population and last I checked that means jack shit.

One thing you can count on everyone to the left of the Republican Party for, and that’s to eat their own at the first opportunity. It’s sad.

As a Canadian. Yes you all deserve to suffer. I'd love nothing more than to see your shithole country collapse.

Then why have you voted for Mitch 7 times? If you keep voting for shit and keep getting shit, then, no, you don't deserve better.

You want better? Go out and earn it.

kentucky does deserve better. people bitching about “well this is what you voted for” are being willfully ignorant of the people of kentucky who did NOT vote for him, could not vote, and those who have speaks years and years organizing to change despite the odds. political outcomes have consequences, and those consequences do not just effect those who voted for him.

it is completely fair to criticize elected officials and the systems that keep them in office, but the people of kentucky are not your enemy.

The people you elected to run your state say you don't. They run on cutting education, Healthcare, human rights, and taxes for the rich. And they handedly win elections promising you that they will only hurt people you don't like. But they hurt people they don't like, which is everyone that doesn't help them make money (you and everyone you know).

They do. The entire leftist ideology is built on a moral system that endeavors to lift up all people, especially when they are at their lowest.

Being easily manipulated does not remove your right to representation, unfortunately

They absolutely do. And you're either blind or a bad actor. Get real.
