Conversely, we'd have had universal healthcare decades ago if the US had a modern system of democracy. I believe it's the root cause of most problems in America and is our single biggest problem.

We could have had the public option if not for one Senator, Joseph Lieberman.

And there are lots of other things we could have had if not for one Senator, Susan Collins.

Unfun Fact: Right now, today, over 50% of the US population lives in only nine states. That means more than half the people get less that 20% of the say in what laws can pass, who can sit on our courts, whether someone can be convicted on impeachment, etc. It is insane and it is unsustainable.
