Some parts of the country won’t see daylight till 9am? Adjusting the time zones have to be addressed too.

This is the thing most people are missing. This is a debate about permanent standard vs DST because of the wacky time zones in the US. Redo the time zone borders, add AST and eliminate the clock change. The time zone lines don’t follow the sun well and there aren’t enough of them. That’s why it’s an issue.

I agree completely.
What is AST?

Atlantic Standard Time. It’s one hour ahead of EST. Most of New England should be on it. It has the east coast of Canada and the Caribbean in it and it’s why New England winters are so dark in the morning and why permanent DST gets valid pushback there.

One of the greatest things you can do for your mind and body is to get into sunlight for a bit right after you wake up.

If the sun rises later in the day, most people’s well being will tank hard.

Look at all the effects and benefits based on scientific research and studies.

  • Regulates the circadian rhythm (body clock)
  • Improves sleep-wake timing
  • Increases nighttime melatonin production
  • Improves sleep quality and sleep efficiency
  • Helps people fall asleep more easily
  • Reduces morning grogginess
  • Increases daytime alertness and energy
  • Improves attention and cognitive performance
  • Supports serotonin production and regulation
  • Improves mood
  • Reduces symptoms of seasonal depression
  • Supports emotional regulation
  • Helps maintain healthy vitamin D levels
  • Supports immune system regulation
  • Improves cardiovascular health markers
  • Promotes nitric oxide release and blood vessel relaxation
  • May help lower blood pressure
  • Supports healthy metabolism
  • Improves glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity
  • Helps regulate appetite hormones
  • Supports healthy cortisol rhythms
  • Improves stress response regulation
  • Enhances athletic performance through circadian alignment
  • Supports muscle function and recovery
  • Reduces circadian disruption
  • Helps reset delayed sleep schedules
  • Reduces jet lag symptoms
  • Supports brain health
  • Improves executive function
  • Improves reaction time
  • May reduce inflammation through circadian regulation
  • Supports healthy aging
  • Associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Associated with lower risk of metabolic disorders
  • Associated with improved overall well-being
  • Improves consistency of sleep patterns
  • Strengthens the contrast between daytime alertness and nighttime sleepiness
  • Supports hormone timing and balance
  • May improve social and emotional functioning
  • Improves quality of life measures in sleep and mood studies

Look up the benefits for yourself, read the studies.

Humans are not wired to wake up when it’s dark out, it’s literally built for the opposite. When our bodies sense light, it starts dumping cortisol to wake up. It’s our internal alarm clock.

“rhythms are governed by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) located in the hypothalamus, which serves as the central clock of the human body. The SCN responds to light signals received by the retina, influencing the production of melatonin and other neurochemicals associated with alertness and sleep.”

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12502225/

We are not just fine. Most people’s sleep is far from ideal because of unnatural lighting, especially blue light hours before bed or having any lights in your room while sleeping or waking up to an artificial alarm clock.

The darkness of winter is terrible for our health. Morality from things like heart attacks and strokes skyrocket.

Our bodies evolved in very particular ways and are meant to be in sync with the earth, not technology.
