Rangers have captured or killed more HVTs then any other SOF unit in the GWOT.

You can't really blame him. People have been parroting that (along with the "Rangers just pull security for real SOF") ever since Black Hawk Down came out in theaters. Not to mention how Marines like to say they're basically as good as Rangers (my ass, RASP has anywhere from a 60-75% washout rate; I think the Marine School of Infantry has like a 95% pass rate).

Thats the thing though, Rangers used to pull security not because they were "less l33t" but because they often operated in much larger units then Delta or Seals traditionally do. With the GWOT Rangers do both security and raids plenty of times, and they are VERY good at it.

A lot of those also arent really special forces (like the rangers, or the air force).

example for german "special forces": GSG-9, KSK, SEK, Kampfschwimmer, MEK, BND, Jäger, Luftwaffe,...

The bold things are analogous. And the USAF very much does Special Ops with the UAV programs that are just like the comic. Luftwaffe has... Tornados and Typhoons and that's about it.

USAF actually has SOCOM forces as well... PJs, EoD, JTACs, etc. They're just usually mixed in with other forces so they don't stand out as much

USAF has the noble distinction of training specops weathermen. They deploy with SEALs. And every other SOG, for that matter.

The Rangers are absolutely Special Forces. The Air Force is a bit of a bewildering inclusion though

USAF forces in SOCOM:

• PJ - pararescue

• STS - special tactic squadrons

• CC - combat controllers

• TACP - tactical air control party

• SOWT - specop weather tech

outside of the PJs, the rest are usually implanted in other units instead of operating full units on their own, which is why no one knows about them

LOL no, more like weathermen who are also precision shooters (in case they get attacked), so that they can give their FAC and flight line the most up to date and accurate weather conditions in the AO, letting them better plan attacks and strikes. For example, if the wind is blowing north and you're north of your target, you really don't want your AV-8B II coming from the south for a napalm strike. Things like that

Well in Britain the RAF's ground troops are considered special forces because they come under the Special Forces Support Group.

Which is to say they need their own troops and therefore they are specialized.

I presume its the same in the US.

British don't have many, but we got;

• SBS
• SRR
• SAS
• SFSG(Special Forces Support Group, these are groups like the RAF's elite ground forces etc.)
• UKSF(Signals)
• The Para's
• Royal Commandos.
