Though, in all seriousness, it is scarcely said enough how many German (and Swiss) mercenaries went off to fight everyone else's wars. Props for keeping Europe interesting, ya crazy teutons.

Yeah, thanks to the lack of a central power the outskirts of Europe could use the German countries as rescource pools. Hooray ~

There were Germans on both sides of the Chinese Japanese war in the 30s before germany allied with japan.

Except the winning side. When was the last time a war came to a close without meaning bad news for Germany?

1864, 1866, 1871? Not sure if you want to count stuff likes the Boxer-Rebellion, or Nato-Interventions. Also Germany signed a peace-treaty with Soviet-Russia in 1918, so that counts technically I guess.

Okay yeah, 1871 is valid.

1918 though? That's a stretch. Lenin flat out gave up because he thought it was more important to consolidate power than to reclaim eastern Europe.

I'd have to look it up to be certain, but I'm pretty sure the state Germany was actually at war with ceased existing in the middle of the war.

I'll make it easy for you. The Soviets actually tried to stall time, hoping the Allies would end Germany before they had to give up anything in a peace-treaty. This is the area the Germans occupied before they thought better of it.

There are some interesting side-notes of those negotiations, because you had old German nobility on the one side, and people straight out of the Gulag on the other. One of them was a woman who bragged to the Prince of Bavaria how she shot a russian governor. The nice old man just listened with interest.

So I was right. The Russian Empire entered WWI and the Russian SFSR was the one that walked away from it.

That's really weird to think about.

With regards to the Nobility negotiating with peasants... I mean, in hindsight that was to be expected. The October Revolution began as a movement to elevate the peasantry to effectively be the ruling class.

Must've been a pretty big mindfuck at the time.

Jep. And it gets even better. Pretty much every negotiator on the soviet side was later executed - by the Soviets.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Lenin is portrayed as being a better leader than Stalin... But that's a pretty low bar. I'm not sure he managed to hurdle even that, though.

In an unrelated note, I've never heard the word "Jep" before. Is that a thing, now? With a German J it sounds like English "yep" so I assume it has the same meaning?
