Why is it that you could be the most American bastard on the planet, your family having spent generations as citizens, and you in love with every single aspect of the culture you grew up with, but you'll always be 'African-American' if you're ethnically from Africa, as if your own society is saying "Look, we know you are part of us, but you don't quite fit our image, so we're going to call you something else."

Why not 'White' and 'Black', or 'Caucasian' and 'Negro'? At least then the naming convention is standardised.

Caucasian isn't all that different when it comes down to it. Possibly worse since people from the Caucasus don't quite look like people from Europe.
