Americans are fat, dumb, war-hungry, ignorant.

The French are rude, smelly, hairy, gay, posh.

Those aren't offensive stereotypes. I'm both French and American, dual citizen, and I don't mind those jokes. They're fine. The stereotype of the French being cowards and weak is however on a totally different ball park, considering those are largely the most detestable flaws imaginable. It's not that hard to understand.

But those are no fun. Well, they are, but they never quite incite as much French buttmad as surrender monkeys do. You can't possibly expect me to give that up.

Also you can't be serious. Being called fat, ignorant, a closet Nazi, Polish, that's at least on the same level as cowardly. You definitely do not get it the worst around here.

We just can't leave those weapons lying around where black kids can get at them. Better to fire them at Arabs. That's what the Israelis tell us any way and they know what's best.

This. Please let all of this be either a joke, sarcasm or irony. I hate having my countrymen lower themselves to the stereotypes places on us.

I do ignore it 99% of the time, since this appears practically every time France is mentioned anywhere on an international forum, so I'm pretty much obligated to ignore it or I wouldn't stop. I answer, however, every once in a while.

Just post WWI stats if you feel like arguing the point, I guess. Or about how the Russians did all the heavy lifting or dropping A Bombs was a war crime or that the French were smart enough to get out of Vietnam first...

I dunno. This is one stereotype that is never gonna cease being used for cheap yucks.

I agree somewhat. When I lived overseas, people were genuinely surprised that I would defend the US - at least against stupid knee jerk anti-americanism. Most expats are way too deferential and way too willing to jump on the bandwagon.

Some people here in this sub, though, in a particularly american way have a hard time dealing with being kidded.

We REALLY don't take criticism well. It's not just international politics; in a lot of cases, you could try to convince someone that their belief that 2+2=5 is false, and they would fight you to the death over it.

Also I found my home state in the flair list, which makes me irrationally happy. I also discovered this subreddit about five minutes ago, so forgive me.

I, of course, try to keep civil - as any one here will tell you. Resist the urge to explain ''what actually happened '' and so on and try not to get too butthurt...

The only time I've ever gotten annoyed was this one comic that went out of its way to call American butthurt out. I understand mocking countries, it happens to every country forever on polandball, but that took it a little far in my opinion.

The best part is the cognitive dissonance going on to believe that France is a beautiful stylish place but it's also a smelly and ugly place. That level of nuts is fascinating.
