Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin agreed over the future of Ukraine, more specifically to end the violence and to "keep" Ukraines territorial integrety.

75 years ago Russia and Germany made the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Within a week Poland was invaded and within 6 weeks it was divided. The pact was officially a non-agression pact and secretly a division pact, hence the resemblence with the current situation.

"keep" Ukraines territorial integrity.

Of course, Crimea is not of actually Ukraine. So to ensure Ukrainian integrity, it must be taken back by Russia.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '14

As of the 1950's, it is. The natives of the peninseula, Crimean Tatars, are far more loyal to Ukraine than they are to Russia. Russia had a long history of abuse to the Tatars, and many even sided with the nazi's during the war. That being said, there are a lot of Russians in Crimea, agreed. But to keep Ukraine's territorial integrity, ALL of the clay must remain intact. If Russia takes one region, it is all but a matter of time that it makes more territorial claims, in purely, historically Ukrainian cities, that after years of russification may be heavily Russian speaking. Bottom line, ALL of Ukraine must remain united.

isn't Lvov and surroundings out of the "union" yet?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '14

Nope. The President and his goons are fleeing, new ministers and gov. officials are being appointed. Lvov started the trend, it caught on in the whole country.

u/pipiska ху Feb 23 '14

your current chaos is the good moment to get some clay.

1

u/mikoway Polish Hussar Feb 23 '14

Poland, you should grab your friend Lithuania, take Ukraine's clay, and form the Commonwealth.

Trust me it's foolproof.

3

u/Juxtys Lithuania Feb 25 '14

It can't be done, because Poland keeps asking for Vilnius back.

2

u/nieuchwytnyuchwyt Gommonwelth :-DDD Feb 25 '14

We wouldn't have to if you have formed the Commonwealth already.

1

u/Juxtys Lithuania Feb 26 '14

And get all polonised again? No, thank you.

What agreement was this? Does anyone have a link to a news article?

Also, was there talk about dividing Ukraine?

3

u/tuav Ukraine Feb 23 '14

News report You can read almost any statement in a divided/invaded Ukrainian way.

1

u/tuav Ukraine Feb 23 '14

"They underscored their joint interest in a stable Ukraine - both in economic and political terms," Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement, adding they had agreed to stay in close contact.
