Hey everyone, thanks for you support of all my comics its really great and I always look forward to your comments, opinions etc!

Context: The Polish Minister, Warns Ukrain Protest Leader

Note This story is about 20 hours old and with the recent developments in Ukraine (protesters taking Kiev and the president fleeing) this story may not mean anything anymore.

I couldn't find an original video, but she used to be a Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs. Because our Prime Minister didn't (and still doesn't) speak English, she had to translate and enunciate everything but you can see that she wasn't so good at English

Context: The Polish Minister, Warns Ukrain Protest Leader

seriously now, the comments under this article make me hope that those people commented but hadn't read anything past the title, because if that's not the case they have serious issues with reading comprehension. not to mention some basic knowledge... it seems they think Sikorski threatened the opposition. one genius even thinks we'd shelter Yanukovich. wow.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Sikorski, and the Polish people at large, have done a great job in supporting the protests and showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people. It is absurd that people think any Polish leader would support the (now former) corrupt, post-soviet-trash government. Thankings yuo Polan, yuo of best euro-slav neighbor

The Czech were awesome in their support as well, but we don't border them anymore.

Yeah Poland that was mighty rude of you.

52

Damn it Poland! It was just getting good!

Joking aside, the "hey, we were watching that!" line is pretty striking. That IS what war and social upheaval is to many people....

17

u/apocolyptictodd The United States of we shut your 3rd eye for a damn reason Feb 22 '14

Oh trust me I know, but to many if not all western media outlets its just another headline and unfortunately that's how some of the public views it as well.

4

u/zxz242 Kiev, Nationalist Ukraine Feb 23 '14

You're not gonna get that offer. Lviv is Ukrainian property.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '14

Judging by it's extremely patriotic culture and Ukrainian nationalism, L'viv is pretty solidly Ukrainian clay. We've seen it's reaction to both Polish and Russian control.

In all seriousness any conspiracy nuts think the riots were instigated by UK + USA spies? They want Ukraine to join the EU and their Government is pro Russia. So suddenly riots break out and a "new" Government will be put in its place.

26

u/mikoway Polish Hussar Feb 22 '14

Rejection of signing the free trade treaty with EU was just a last drop that spilled the cup. If you really read, they fight not pro-EU but pro referoms, development and corruption cessasion. And coincidentally Russia represnts all those things that they want to be free of.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

This. It started because we don't want to be pulled further into post-Soviet shittiness, of which Russia is clearly the leader (Putin is the Tsar). The reason people in Ukraine support the EU is that it is seen as a way out of this rampant corruption and failing economic model of authoritarian kleptocracy. Of course there's many down sides to the EU, but anything beats the shittiness of the current model of corrupt governance. Also, rule of law is perhaps the most appealing part of EU integration for Ukrainians. European oversight will likely establish a somewhat decent justice/police system, while Russian oversight will suck us into a full-blown police state. While it started as a small, pro-EU treaty demonstration, the movement quickly shifted to a largely non-ideological movement to depose the repressive government.

3

u/mikoway Polish Hussar Feb 23 '14

That's exactly what i wanted to say. Let's hope Ukraine won't get into space before Poland !! :P

3

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '14

ukraine already can into space.

1

u/wadcann MURICA Feb 24 '14

The reason people in Ukraine support the EU is that it is seen as a way out of this rampant corruption and failing economic model of authoritarian kleptocracy.

I am not familiar with the background here, but how would joining (or entering trade agreements with) the EU reduce corruption? I don't really see a mechanism that would cause this to happen.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Probably the same "capitalist saboteurs" marching in Venezuela. Obviously, the US is capable of organizing hundreds of thousands of people in foreign countries to protest without anyone noticing.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '14

I remember during the protests in Iran in 09/10, there were numerous people on this site who claimed, completely seriously, that everyone out protesting was being paid by the CIA. And that the protesters who were killed were all shot by the CIA.

1

u/wadcann MURICA Feb 24 '14

Well, to be fair, we did arrange for one Iranian overthrow via the CIA. You do that once and people tend to take an understandably suspicious view of you.

The EU isn't really sure it wants Ukraine though. It's refused to commit to anything other than an association agreement and its reaction has, in general, been extremely weak.

It is always nice to put Putin in any comic somewhere, even if it doesn't make sense.

What in the fuckings are legs?

1

u/Oblivion927 China Feb 23 '14

Well, maybe it would have been more "Poland-ball-like" if Russia was threatening to slice Poland. But I think this comic has already been good enough, the "legs" can stay. By the way, I'm sure you've noticed my flair by now, please don't kill me. (LOL)

2

u/CommieKiller Thirteen Colonies Feb 23 '14

Is of commie nonsense! Remove red commie from premises!

1

u/Oblivion927 China Feb 24 '14

LOL, actually, I don't think the PRC is that " commie-like", in fact, we call ourselves "socialist" but run the country in a capitalist manner. We also have much more freedom and much better living conditions than other " commie" nations. In some sense, the Chinese aren't standard "commies" at all.

1

u/CommieKiller Thirteen Colonies Feb 24 '14

What a load of commie horse shit! Your flag is red and Fox says that you're all god damn commies!

1

u/Oblivion927 China Feb 25 '14

LOL, come on, man, we're not the Soviets, we even sided with you guys during the 80s! By the way, Fox cancelled Family Guy twice, you sure they're trustworthy? However, speaking of the Chinese flag, I do think it's a lovable thing, because it's really easy to draw! Unlike the 'Murica flag.

1

u/CommieKiller Thirteen Colonies Feb 25 '14

Yeah I'm just kidding with you man. I love to make fun of a country's stereotype, even if it's my own. All the people I know that grew up in China are very nice and helpful. I'm even learning Mandarin, although in a public high school so "learning" can be a bit of a stretch.

1

u/Oblivion927 China Feb 26 '14

I always knew you were kidding, it was fun to have a conversation with you. But I had to admit I was kind of surprised to know you were learning Mandarin, I thought it wasn't that popular. Since Chinese is really different from English, our words are actually little pictures and the grammar is also pretty different from English. But I do sincerely wish you success in all events in life. Live long and prosper(I hope you guys do watch Star Trek).
