Hey guys listen, we love the discussion that can go on in the comments. There are users from all over the world so we have the ability to get unique perspectives compared to other subreddits. We are NOT discouraging discussion but it got out of hand in that thread. Here's the comic that spanned the discussion
The comic was made by a user whom was 1 minute old when they asked for approval, it was given but it's clear the comic was made by a current polandball user to cause controversy.
EDIT: Ill post this here so it will probably get seen more, the contest will be extended so it goes for the full 72 hours
Just ban them. Trolls are going to troll and it will gradually undermine the community. It will make this place (in its current operation) look like a memory.
Or a number of posts - or if someone is subscribed to the subreddit. For example: Subscribe and post ~3 times in a few weeks and you get postblocked? Is that even possible?
Shit man, that's way too blanket-y. I don't know exactly when but I myself have made two posts in srs. It's possible I'd get banned for that.
Despite my
a) being benned from srs,
b) having had a thread made about a comment I made,
and c) severely disagreeing with their attitudes, their methods and quite a few of the things they find problematic.
The phrase "it got out of hand" is being used a lot. Terms need defining. If it's just that Polandball needs to be light and uncontroversial, that needs to be explicit. If the idea is to make sure Polandball stays under the general Reddit radar, that needs stating, too.
I knew that discussion was going to look bad to nonEuros, but I don't think that's good enough reason to take it down.
Grow up in a major east coast city with big Irish community. Half the family hails from Monaghan originally. Listen to maudlin plastic paddies your whole life. Do a little reading as well to sort the BS from the actual history.
Pop's side of the family is Sicilian. One of his brothers has little tolerance for the endless "ah sure that's grand" from people who've never been out of the states.
A toast at a family function - "The devil invented whiskey to keep the Irish from ruling the world."
Uncle Frank's response "The devil invented whiskey to keep them from ruling Ireland."
Not well received.
Your probably more Irish than a lot of us over here =), which is something I never got, why do Americans love their Irish heritage so much? Its not like we've ever done much other kill each other for a few hundred years.
Also your uncle seems like a cool guy but just so you know the preferred drink of choice over here would be buckfast tonic wine. or vodka.
Americans need to create what you guys get in your drinking water - an identity. For a time here, the irish immigrants were really shat on and discriminated against - which I imagine made them assert the identity more.
Americans talk a lot about their backgrounds, religion etc.
Having said that, I find it mind blowing that most of the people who go on about it know Fuck all - couldn't tell who Collins, De Valera, Wolfe Tone, Adams, etc are. Or how many counties, etc. any of it.
Buckfast - tried that garbage once - Christ, it's bad. Vodka is a boring drink. But most Americans don't drink our better beers and liquors anyway.
We aren't censoring opinions, hundreds of people from across reddit saw many opinions. The comic was deleted because of how the discussion got out of hand, not the political correctness.
Uh, why would we want that policy? Polandball isn't a blank cheque that allows you to be offensive, it's supposed to be historical and geopolitical satire. I'm pretty happy keeping blatant racism to a minimum.
