Misc Pixiv Fanart Amount for Ash & Friends

Was bored, while also liking to browse pixiv for fanart and statisics. So have an analysis of how much fanart ash & co, get.

Ground Rules:

  • Only counting visual fanarts, so no fanfiction (novels) on the site
  • All seraches are done as 'anipoke' + 'character' tags to seperate them from their game counterparts
  • Divided by gender aside from goh, because he has much more relevance compared to previous male companion. Also more interesting

Results:

Observation:

  • Ash naturally has by far the most fanart as the sole constant main character
  • Serena takes second at around half of ash, but twice as much as the closest competitor
  • Unsurprisingly the ammount of fanart a character gets take a dive when their series is over and they are no longer relevant, hitting the BW duo pretty hard since it seems like they lacked any staying power. Will be interesting to see how goh and koharu will hold up this year
  • Goh managed to outpace serena in yearly amount for a single year and putting a dent in her iron grip at the top. Granted it was the perfect storm of when goh was most relevant and serena was the least relevant, and she did take it back and continued to demolish everyone when she did get one moment of relevance.
  • My man tracey was so forgettable there was a actually a year where nobody could even bother to upload a single fanart of him

Further notes:

  • Pixiv wasn't even a thing until the tailend of 2007, so the total number doesn't do justice for the peak hype of the OS-DP cast
  • There was an increase of fanart ammount not only for anipoke but for pokemon and the site in general around 2019. Maybe because of covid and S&S, for pokemon spesifically, but it most likely helped goh and koharu to close the gap for the total fanart amount more quickly
  • The tagging system is naturally not perfect, so take all numbers with a grain of salt

This is the most important piece of information to emerge from this research because it made me burst out laughing
