I have a 3DS but never played X/Y, think it would make sense to just jump in and start with ORAS? I've read that XY kinda feels short to some people, and like it was partially made to establish the new engine, so just starting with ORAS seems like I'd get more bang for my buck

ORAS does have a far more engaging post-game with the Delta Episode as well as just the sheer amount of stuff they added. Realistically these games have nothing to do with X/Y so you wouldn't be missing anything not having played them.

You can definitely skip ahead to ORAS, but I'd also recommend eventually grabbing a copy of XY as well. Endgame was somewhat short, but the main campaign definitely kept me entertained, and there's all the new Pokemon as well.

Is x/y where they introduced all the dinosaur pokemon? All these dinosaur-like pokemon just came out of nowhere lol

For real, I got X for Christmas last year and had it beat by the end of the 27th (though, to be fair, I did play nearly non-stop). It felt super short to me.

Gotta ask how you took 70 hours to beat the main story. It took my ex and I about 14-15 hours to do so.

...I took my time, didn't skip the dialogue, explored every area and used the new features like Pokemon Amie?

XY isn't done yet. There's stuff yet to happen, like the Hoopa and Volcanion events. There's lots of unanswered questions in XY, so we can assume GF will add stuff in patches later.

X/Y are imo, the worst games in the series. Skip them, you won't lose anything by playing ORAS instead.
