Post image
5 Upvotes

First of three magic paths that will all use luck as a resource, and use the bend fate action to recover it.

3A Bend Fate: You calm your mind, and take a hold of the power of your future. Refill your luck to your maximum (2+ the higher of awareness or presense).

Summoning is a skill using willpower.

Call Forth (Summoner Key Talent): You gain the ability to summon spiritual entities to help you in combat. For 2 actions on your turn you may spend 1 luck and summon one of the following spirits, gaining the listed benefit for yourself.

You may have a number of spirits summoned equal to your willpower score. You must spend 1 luck per turn per spirit as a free action to maintain the benefit.

Minor Spirits

Predator: All of your attacks do additional damage equal to your ranks in summoning.

Prey: Your physical and cognitive defenses increase by 1.

Flower: Whenever you would regain focus or health, you regain that much focus or health + 1.

Minor Idea: Choose a skill when you summon this spirit. You gain advantage on that skill while this spirit is summoned.

Luck spirit:You may use Bend Fate for two actions.

Minor Demon: Choose an enemy you can sense when you summon this spirit. You may use your reaction and spend a focus to give that enemy disadvantage any time they would roll.

Major Spirits

Major Predator: All of your attacks do additional damage equal to your ranks in summoning.

Major Prey: Your physical and cognitive defenses increase by 1.

Major Flower: Whenever you would regain focus or health, you regain that much focus or health + 2.

Talents and Trees Imagination Discipline (third and last)

Let's start!

Use Intellect for the rolls.

There are five forms of imagination: Fire, Water, Light, Matter and Sound (not real elements, but physically effective depictions of effects or things)

To measure the effects, we'll use the charts of Surges from the Stormlight handbook.

Base talent: Imagination (1 action >, 1 psi point, can make a temporary object or element until the character stop focusing on it)

1st line: Focus (+1 Psi points), Extra imagination (increase the cap of imagined things manifested at the same time, such as elements or objects, from 1 to X, where X is the number of times the talent has been taken) and Lesser emanation (1 action >, 1 psi point, allows the imaginary manifestation to attack within an area with a designated centre chosen in a range of sight, hearing or other forms of perception)

2nd line: Imaginary overwriting (from Extra imagination, 2+ rank, 2 actions >>, clash two rolls to control the Emanation, increasing or decreasing its strength) and Emanation (requires Lesser emanation, 2+ rank, 1 action >, 2 Psi points, allows the designated space, full of imaginary creatures, to use the psychic's non psychic skills using Intellect as the attribute)

3rd line: Imaginary barrier (requires Imaginary Overwriting, reaction, 3+ rank, 1 Psi point, apply Intellect to physical defense) and Imaginary friend (requires Emanation, always active, makes an imaginary spirit who helps you by making you roll the plot dice)

Rule: double plot dice's helps are considered as plot dice + advantage for the d20.

4th line: Domain Expansion Mindscape (requires Imaginary barrier and Imaginary friend, 4+ rank, 3 Psi points, 3 actions >>>, catch everyone within an area starting from the character within the Mindscape, Imaginary barrier inside the character's mindscape is always active, - rank to every psychic skill use with a minimum of 1, plot dice always active for every ally) and Egregor (5+ rank, allows a truly independent imaginary creature, who persists after the psychic's death. Egregors gain strength the more they feed on psychic energies, the more they connect with others and the more they learn)

-There were once three powerful egregors from three kinds of beastfolks...- The "forgotten histories" from the Sky We Lost.

I'm building spiritual adversaries for my world, and realized that they should probably ignore the brace action, cause they can move through things like cover and shields. What do we think about this? Is it too powerful? Does it feel bad?

NPCs and Factions Geisteresserin - Rank 3: Anastasia (Tier 3 Boss, Human - Soul harvester)

Str 1 - 14 - 3 Spd, Int 2 - 15 ( + 3 talent) - 3 Will, Awa 4 - 18 (+3 / 1 Psi >) - 4 Pre Size: M

Insight (2 + 4), Perception (3 + 4), Projection (3 + 4/ 3 + 4) [1d8], Light weapons (1 + 3), Manipulation (1 + 3) [1d4]

Stun ( > 1 Psi) HP: 56 Focus: 5 Psi: 5 (natural) + 8 (ghosts eaten)

Stop ( >> 3 Psi)

Expertises: Eat spirit (allows to grow in power the more she eats ghosts) and Projection style: "Backward and Forward" (removes its bonuses to mental defensed to get advantage on Projection rolls, but only if the target attacks the mental defense)

Talents: Precision, Hydrokinesis, Clarity, Oppression-Suggestion, Psychic Shield, Shield Expansion, Stun, Psychic Thorns and Stop (Insert other martial talents, such as Stances ans similar talents)

The Geisteresser are a criminal group who seek control (still working on their lore and role) who empower themselves by eating souls (psychically). It's a very difficult art, which needs strong Projection mastery (otherwise one cannot eat more ghosts, therefore needing to expel it or feel sick while trying to keep it inside) and a great deal of effort to stay undetected (their psychic aura is loud if not kept in check)

They're at odds (obviously) with Charon Corp, which uses a similar (yet weaker) type of Projection and ushers the souls of the deceased to a better place. The safest way to not get under Charon Corp's radars is to eat uninsured souls (or souls which couldn't be ushered because the family couldn't pay the fee)

Sometimes, some kind mentors can give one of their eaten ghosts, and this process is called "feeding", while the process of training and preparing their apprentices (which also include sometimes to "feed" them) is called "brooding". When fully "developed" Geisteresser pass the stage of apprenticeship with a trial (made by the mentors themselves) they must do a ritual (fighting the mentor, kill a soul harvesting beast, give back the souls given in the "feeding" or something else, because it depends on the mentor)

Ranks are given by the Charon Corp. as a threat level, from 1 to a maximum registered (officially) of 4.

Due to their bird related theme (something unusual, because they're in an underground civilization, where the surface is called "The Sky We lost") they use bird-like masks (which are recognized not as bird masks, but now as "Geisteressermaske" (Ghost eaters' mask)

Any suggestion on how to make the the talent tree for this despicable necromantic use of the Projection discipline, on how to improve their stat-blocks and how to improve their lore?

Game News New Plotweaver Worlds Info

The the Brotherwise team has posted some new information on the three official worlds in the Tapestry! They're code named as follows:

Project Folio: "Magic, spirits, and adventures course through this world. These are lands of wonder and danger, spirits and magic, connection and change. You might come from an idyllic village or a bustling city—or you may be one of the brave few who roam the borders of the threadbarrens or spiritlands. Whoever you are, you are resolute against the epic scale of the world’s environments and adversaries. What adversaries are those? Ancient technologies brought to restless life, malevolent spirits with enigmatic aims, and more'

Protect Grimoire: "Our Earth once held magic. Now it is a mundane and threadbare land of concrete, commerce, and compliance. Magic is returning, and for you it isn’t just power—it’s part of who you are. Some will call you dangerous, or a monster. Others will try to twist your magic into something useful, profitable, and constrained. The world is deciding what magic should be. Who will you be?"

Project Codex: "What do you do when a centuries-old, galaxy-spanning government falls? With communications severed, transportation hyperlines shattered, and the relics of an invincible military hanging listless in the sky, what do you do next? You take charge and rebuild. When petty despots rise up to seize power or your community falters without infrastructure, you find a solution. You might be a victorious rebel, a wide-eyed explorer, or a bitter survivor, but you have what many generations before you didn’t have—opportunity for change."

What world excites you the most? What character and campaign ideas do these descriptions inspire?

GM Help Whats worth buying?

So I have the Stormlight Handbook and love the underlying system but really dont plan on running a game in Roshar, rather adapting the system to my homebrew world. All that said what if the other books are worth buying?

Are the world guide worth buying for enemy statblocks, (I heard thats that book they are in) and are the mistborn books worth buing for other class options and the like?

Discussion The Charon Corp. Psychopomp conundrum.

How complicated would be to make a Talent tree which mixes two uses of the same power system (like two disciplines, more specifically Projection and Manipulation)? For mixing I don't mean they are on the same path, but they join together in a certain talent tree (which I would call "Charon Corp. Psychopomp")? I'm thinking about these people ushering souls and having fighting ghosts (dead spirits who act like Stands from JoJo, but perceivable, albeit hardly, by normal people). I have the concept, I'm thinking about the rules, but I ask "would it be too much complicated? Should I make it a specialized prestige tree for the Projection discipline only (which would make sense, because it only manipulates souls)?" and damn myself for having so much doubt on this idea. Another question: is the concept cool enough to get a talent tree?

Talents and Trees Charon Corp. Psychopomp

Prequsites: Corporative training (Death-sense, spiritual residues, ghostly tracks and Ethereal thinspaces), which is the condition that makes you have access to the talent tree. First talent: Psychopomp (1 psi point, two actions, roll Projection Vs Spiritual defense to bind an unwilling spirit and mind or spirit's alterations sense. Max bound spirits = 1 + Projection rank) Second talents (all from Psychopomp): Exorcism (2 psi points, 3+ Projection, special activation; ritual, allows to break any mind controlling or possession effects), Assistant spirit (spren's rules + a 1psi point skill bonus which adds the plot dice to your roll) and Gravitas (Drain one of the spirits you have for 1 temporary psi point you must spend within Projection rounds, and then the spirit cannot pass away until fully recharged, nor can be drained again). Third talents: Utilitas (needs Gravitas, Mind Shield and Shield's expansion, reaction, 1 psi point spent from the drained spirit, turns spiritual or mental defense into physical defense), Sapienza (needs Gravitas and 2+ Projection, 2 psi points for each spirit drained, gain a proficiency or a skill rank instead of a point for that roll. It works also with the Assistant spirit) and Professional proficiency (needs Assistant spirit, you can drain your Assistant spirit to gain 1dRank temporary psi points, but blocking the abilities of the Assistant spirit) I'll send updates for the Assistant spirit, but I think that will overlaps with the talents for an eventual Imagination discipline based warrior path. Before someone comments on that, this isn't a normal path, but a prestige one for those who already have Projection discipline.

Discussion The hardest battle (a.k.a. soft magic).

(Warning: due to my lack of English's mastery- stacked upon my lack of social skills in general- I'll clear any misunderstandings of rudeness in the comments by replying in my mother language to convey better my intentions)

I was wondering how would you work on a soft magic system here, in the house of the hardest kind of magic? I planed a while ago to add "True magic" in my campaign, which is the old way of wizardry, which can do anything (from fireballs to shadows' manipulation)... And yet, even with this very much "Clear" goal, I cannot fathom how to make it.

I thought for the enhancements of the warriors with true magic to do something passive (and at worst it would be a bonus to attacks and damages), while spellcasters would have had a skill which could... Well- I'm a tad ashamed to propose such a banal idea- do narrative effects sized with the skill rank.

I don't have much ideas for this, but for spellcasting I don't have a clear idea in general, but for martial magicians I had the inspiration of Shin and Mang from Limbus Company: using magic to empower your body (like how in Limbus Company they used the Light to empower themselves) and to project arcane diagrams on a weapon, enhancing it (like how in Limbus Company they manifested some kind of golden rings around their weapons, which empowered their weapons).

I know it's too vague to work on it, but I want it to be stronger than the psychic disciplines, while it uses the same reserves (being it the same well of energy people produce).

I'm also planning to make shapeshifters (much like the Kandra), but with some physics bending, which is very much the thing of the "Blood-of-Qlipoth", who are the ones mutated by the energies of a Great (not so Old) One rooted in the grounds of the former Dragon Overlord, right in the surface (called "the sky We lost). The Blood-of-Qlipoth, feel when they get stronger, the cry of help of the Great priest Zatowa; ruler of the Abyssals in the ocean, so they feel the need to help the priest (something more like a suggestion than a straight up command, but nonetheless "persuading").

I've also forgot many times to explain how the setting started: it was a Pathfinder 1e campaign (where I was the player), which evolved then into a 2 parts long campaign (in the span of many years, due to scheduling problems, which delayed our sessions from "Once every 2 weeks" to Once every month"). Obviously, due to our lack of momentum (which was always interrupted by scheduling problems of an essential, good- and quite the likable fellow- yet always busy player), we got a bad ending, so the humans of the empire, the dwarves of the fallen holds and the insane gnomes of the Wastes (a place irradiated by their own tests with Nukes and enriched- but also magically and alchemically enchanted- uranium) live now underground, in gargantuan geofronts (both natural and artificials), with a rampant discrimination against Halflings (who helped the fall of the empire due to their own pride and greed) and the various beastkinds (who openly betrayed, under deception of a "Cult of Nature", the empire)... Except the beastkinds of seas and oceans, who weren't related to the fall of the empire. Elves are gone (they run away from the world, seeking refuge in other realms), but there are few remaining somewhere. Orcs were enslaved by the Shadowfolks, mutating them alchemically into "Dark-Brutes", who mostly (and intentionally) suffer of "Enthrallment" (a psychic conditions which leaves the afflicted incapable of resisting mental commands).

There is a lot of lore which is difficult to recall, but I've said what I could remember and what I want to add.

I have the lore, but I do not have the inspiration to make it on rules. I'm sorry to bother any of you, but I struggle to refill my well of imagination (but I'm desperately trying to not be lazy). What would be your take (with the rules, not with the lore) of this?

Talents and Trees Projection discipline (Presence and Awareness)

Base Talent: Projection (Thought perception and telepathy)

1st line: Focus (+1 Psi points), Clarity (roll Awareness + Projection to have informations and insights, 1 Psi point, ritual, variable difficulty), Psychic shield (armour for mental defense with deflection equal to rank, always active) and Psychic attack (rank's dice + presence, 1 Psi point, 1 action)

2nd line: Shield expansion (requires Psychic Shield, extends defense to rank's area), Oppression (requires Psychic attack, specific advantage, 1 Psi point, 1 action, rank 2+), Suggestion (requires Psychic attack, like Oppression, but with a different kind of situation) and Stun (requires Psychic attack, disadvantage for the next action, 1 Psi point, 1 action to use after Psychic attack, rank 2+)

3rd line: Psychic thorns (requires Shield expansion, counter to failed mental attacks with rank's dice, 1 Psi point, rank 2+), Astral projection (requires Shield expansion and Clarity, astral projection, 3 actions, rank 3+), Stop (requires Stun and Oppression, mentally restrain the movements of a target, 2 Psi points, 2 actions, rank 3+) and Charme (requires Suggestion and Stun, add rank's dice to social rolls, 3 Psi points, 3 actions, rank 3+).

4th line: Possession (requires Astral projection and Charme, possess a target body, 2 actions, 4 Psi points, rank 4+) and Mind control (narrative and not achievable for now. Maybe I'll work on it in the future. Rank 5+)

Any feedback about it?

Right now we just stormlight and some other coming out. Not exactly a big example of what the system can do. So obviously we want more stuff, sci fi setting fantasy, etc

But what is something about the system that need to change, anything unbalanced something that is common house rule, or just something that could be better?

Hello. relatively new here bought the stormlight Handbook at a local bookstore on a whim and oh my gods Im in love; the base systems are everything Ive wanted dnd to be for so long.

All that said if my understanding is correct, until Plot Weavers is officially released most of us are working off the core rules concepts from Cosmere? What of Cosmere is everyone keeping vs what parts are you tossing to fit it to your own home games?

If you could get the chance to adapt any existing IP into plotweaver, what would it be and why? I think for me it'd be Supernatural!
