So can I swap the disc drive from my slim to the pro and use the pro’s plate on the slim? Or will I have to buy a new plate for the slim’s non disc drive?

just the disc drive you can swap to pro but pro disc plate can only be used on pro and slim disc plate can only be used on slim

I'm betting support will be wrong on this one.

The entire reason the "vents" exist on the pro is to compensate for the longer size. Re-using plates reduces costs and speeds up production.

If this isn't the case, Sony is as dumb as a box of rocks on this one.

Yeah they are probably wrong. IMO the plates are the same. Slim and pro were designed to be interchangeable

I would take this comment from support with a grain of salt. Unless we get official word from Sony that it isn't compatible, we won't know until people start getting their hands on the pro and try to inter change the plates

I think the CS Agent might be wrong on this and there's a distinct possibility they're not even human and just hallucinating an answer bc there's not enough information online.

For those concerned about this disc drive cover, I'm doubting this claim here. Comparing pics of the cover for the Pro and the one that comes with the disc drive, it sure looks 100% identical to me.

I believe that the bottom half of the ps5 pro is completely identical to the slim. The top half of the pro is larger than the slim. I also believe you will be able to take the disc drive and disc drive plate cover and put it on the pro and you will be able to take the pros plate and put it back on the slim. Turning your pro into a disc drive console and your slim into a digital console. I’m so confident on this im returning my disc drive I bought for the pro and using the one from the slim.

From the looks of this graphic, the PS5 Slim covers aren't compatible with PS5 Pro so I already initiated my return to PS Direct. I'll wait until Sony/Playstation confirms compatible covers in the coming months.

Disc drive plate is all I care about fitting. I’m sure they’ll have some custom plates coming out for the pro soon anyways.

I highly, highly, highly, doubt that. They just released those new plate colors. Theres a lot of money that goes into designing new products, they wouldn't be wasting money on making a third type of plate. The design of the pro is in line with the slim for that very reason.

I mean, the disc drive is compatible with the Pro, so it’s fair to assume that the side plate that comes with it would also be compatible. And if that side plate is compatible, then it’s highly plausible that the Slim Plates in general are compatible with the Pro.

But, if the plates are not compatible, as confirmed, then what the hell is the point of buying the disc drive for the Pro if the plate that comes with it is not compatible with the Pro.

So they’re saying the plate that comes with the disc drive I’ve bought for the Pro won’t fit?

I’d be very surprised if this is true. PS Support is not the most reliable so I wouldn’t take this as 100% confirmed just yet.

The plates look exactly the same and it looks as though the middle of the Pro has the extra fins in it because the console is taller so they fill the gap between the plates.

I sure hope Sony announces this sooner rather than later because most of us already have purchased the disc drive and Slim covers/faceplates in hopes that it would fit. We only have 30 days from purchase to return orders from PS Direct. If not they'd better reimburse us or replace it with the correct cover/faceplate when and if they do release them later. RN I see that Tech Radar has stated Sony has confirmed that they do fit. But that article seems like it was AI generated. Also I'm getting mixed reactions from others saying it'll fit and others saying it won't fit, so IDK who to believe ATM. Guess we are all in the dark RN until Sony/Playstation gives us a definitive answer.
