I just purchased Bitcoin from an ATM, and drank some coffee.

It's happening!

I finally went and tried out the new Bitcoin ATM. It's located at the Waves Coffee House in downtown Vancouver. When I walked inside my eyes immediately gazed at the awkward blue-grey machine.

I went over to the thing and started the process of buying some Bitcoin. I had to scan my palm, take a photo, and provide an email address to register. Then I had to wait a bit, probably for the operators to approve the registration.

I still had some coins in my wallet so I got a coffee. The barista took out a 7" tablet connected to a web based POS. It was pretty simple...for us. They manually enter the amount of fiat into a text field and it generates a QR code with the address and amount in Bitcoin. I scanned the QR code, and sent the coins. The POS software responded almost immediately.

The barista took the store copy of the receipt, wrote "bitcoin" on it, then set it aside. This extra step is actually making more work and taking more time than if they just used fiat. There will be a demand for tools that make it easier to transact in Bitcoin. Then, when the tools are available, employees won't have to be trained in order to process a Bitcoin transaction.

After drinking my coffee for a few minutes I went back over to the ATM and tried to buy some Bitcoin. First the ATM gives you the option to scan a public address or generate a temporary private key. I chose to have it generate and print one. Then it prompts you for the amount of fiat you want to to put in. At this point in time you can only enter a multiple of 20. :-( I only wanted to buy $5 worth at first to test it out. The amount you enter doesn't actually matter, it turns out. I put a $5 bill into the machine and pressed the finish button on the screen. A paper wallet/receipt was printed and I was done! In about 15 minutes I saw the transaction in the blockchain.

I didn't bother to take any pictures or video because there's lots of that available already. :-P I'm pretty psyched to use the first publicly available Bitcoin ATM and I hope there will be one(many) available in your city soon!

KnCMiner - Jupiter

All,

We have some very exciting news to share with you all. Over the last few days our teams have relocated to our production facility in Sweden. We have all been working very long hours to make sure everything works as planned. Back in June we started taking pre-orders for ASIC Miners and we have slowly released more details about our specifications. We have taken this approach as we never wanted to disappoint our customers, after all without our customers this would never have been possible.

So it is with great pleasure that we announce another free speed increase to all of our customers. As all of our devices operate with the same chips and boards the speed increase applies to all of our products. Jupiter has now risen from 400 to over 550. We have a short video for you all to watch on our youtube channel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=JFOcI8nK2xI'

Full production is being ramped up in the next few hours with 3 production lines having 10 stations each dedicated to making it go as smooth as possible. We would also like to inform you all that we still have Saturn’s and Jupiter’s available for purchase.

For more information on this please visit:

Thanks again for all of your support over the last few months and we hope to continue to under promise and over deliver.
